Sturgeon's independence bluff unveiled – shipbuilding industry needs 'all parts of UK.

NICOLA STURGEON believes naval shipbuilding would continue if Scotland became independent but in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, the chief of Maritime UK, Ben Murray, claimed the shipbuilding industry needs all parts of the UK to be successful.

The argument over Scottish independence has intensified after the SNP’s election victory earlier this month, as it also produced a larger pro-independence majority in the Scottish parliament. The issue of Royal Navy shipbuilding in Scotland has therefore become controversial once again. One side, the Scottish government, says that naval shipbuilding would continue if Scotland left the UK.

"These yards have been through some really difficult times with a reduction in the workforce, and they thought that that was all part of the process of getting themselves into shape for the Type 26 and securing a level of employment here. This is about jobs and securing jobs in industry.

"It would be a complete betrayal of these yards if there was any U-turn or going back on promises made.”
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Ben Murray, chief executive of Maritime UK, warned Ms Sturgeon it is the strength of all parts of the UK that makes shipbuilding successful.

Bosses blamed them on write-offs in relation to the shipbuilder’s failure to build the two ferries.
According to The Herald, the Scottish government injected £17million into the business to keep it afloat during the four months of trading.
