I don’t wanna disrespect any of the people who remade this song I think they’ve all done great but the original writer of this song was Lloyd chandler in Madison county NC preacher of bee tree house of gospel first found and recorded in the year of 1923

I've heard many folks sing this, but this gentleman has a soul chilling voice. My dad was born in 1895, but by 1917, he was a 'doughboy' in Siberia in WW1. He'd never been outside the mountains of SW Va, and he well knew these songs. He grew up 'flatfootin' to music we now cherish. Songs no doubt this man sung.

Just saw him on a documentary they made in the 70's. He even looked like death back then. Then to look him up and see he lived another 20 years after that.

RIP. I died in August but doctors brought me back after 6 minutes. I've died twice in my life. My heart swelled due to stress. I ended up having a heart attack and died. The other time was related to my unknown muscle condition. My left arm felt like it blew up from inside. I passed out. I remember doctors in the ER telling me to hang on. Telling me don't give up.

It's weird for me knowing I died and I'm back. Nothing seems the same. Nothing tastes good anymore. It's all related to the trauma from open heart surgery to being on life support for a long time.

Anyways rest in peace sir.
