Always loved JCS, and Pilate's Dream is by far my favorite song from it. Bravo!
ОтветитьI think you looked very good Dennis. Have a good holiday. Your fan-Ally
P.S your cape looks amazing
Thank you so much for doing these. This one is really special to me because I couldn’t afford to see this production at the time and I regret not finding a way to have borrowed the cash to have gone.
Stay safe and healthy, Dennis!
Awesome!
ОтветитьHi Dennis, I was just wondering if you are a saved, Bible believer? And I'm not talking about whether you belong to a man made Christian denomination in corrupted, organized religion. Have you recognized your a sinner like myself, and have you trusted that JESUS CHRIST died on the cross for your sins? And believe that he was buried, and rose again on the third day as an atonement for your sins? are you a born again, spiritual man of GOD? If you have not trusted CHRIST as your saviour, I will pray that he will lead you into all knowledge, and truth of his power unto salvation. THUS saith the LORD: for ye are saved by grace, through faith, and that not of yourself, it's a Gift from GOD; not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8 KJV 📃.
ОтветитьDidn't know you were in that tour!! Ted Neely is a legend and so are you!! 😙💕

It's disappointing to hear the guy who so passionately sang Show Me the Way making light of the Way (and the Truth and the Life). Perhaps it was no more than a catchy tune after all?
See I met a man who told me once
Sincerity's the key
And once you learn to fake it
Son you're gonna be home free
Just Wow!👍
ОтветитьDennis, any chance you can upload the entire show from that VHS on here? I'd love to see it. Thanks! What year and date is it from any way?
ОтветитьDear Dennis D thank you 🙏🏻 4 being you .. I love how you and Suzanne have stayed true to each other and your soul 💕✝️
ОтветитьSaw Superstar back in the day at the Fox Theatre in St Louis only because of DDY -- a great show. Styx was my favorite band from the moment I discovered them as a kid in '82-'83 or so... too young to go see the Kilroy tour but I later saw Tommy with Damn Yankees, and JY with his band in some no-account bar... all great and significant to me... and finally got to see the complete and true Styx live at the opening date of the reunion tour in Cedar Rapids in what, '97? If only we could see the real Styx reunite again! I do love Tommy and JY, but there is no Styx without DDY. Thanks to Dennis for these videos, he seems so genuine. Hope to see you on tour at some date in the not so distant future...
ОтветитьThe second number is simply called "Pilate and Christ." Pilate was my first role post college. I wish I could have sung "Pilate's Dream" using the arrangements Dennis used, I even gave the music director a transcribed version based on the recording on "10 on Broadway" but no dice.
I have a ticket to see Dennis here in Fort Wayne, IN. If this d@mn covid ever leaves us.
Saw the Toronto performance you were Excellent in this Role! Thanks for posting this Video!!
ОтветитьMr. DeYoung is just a nice man, thank you for the music sir!
ОтветитьWas at this NY show at Paramount. LOVED your performance and was looking for a vid of the full show. Where is the rest beyond your 3 scenes?! Thanks, DD!
ОтветитьAlways preferred DD's arrangement of Pilate's Dream. Usually done as a guitar piece, the piano sounds much more "haunting."
ОтветитьI seen the show with you in it .........Pittsburgh Pa !! You crushed it.......... You are the reason I went !! You didn't need a microphone......!!
ОтветитьSorry, but cant take the lisp
ОтветитьDennis I would really like to see the full length video of JCS. Thanks so much.
ОтветитьI saw you in Pittsburgh. I've never forgotten that performance. Blew me away. 😍
ОтветитьYou are SO talented, thank you!!
ОтветитьI saw you in JCS in Pittsburgh on July 7th 1993...I loved your performance, and the other guys werent bad either
ОтветитьSaw the show at the Paramount n NYC but I think it was right after you took a header off the stage or something because we saw the understudy. He really worked that cape. We were pretty bummed though.
ОтветитьI thought those names started familiar, those are the same Judas and Jesus who are in the 1970s feature film and other versions, as I suppose others have noted. A very good voice on that Caiaphas also. I won't say anything against Barry Dennen but it makes me wonder how Dennis DeYoung would have approached voicing Skeksil in the Dark Crystal series. With those hands he could probably work the somewhat less than innocent puppet also!
ОтветитьHi Dennis! Someone's probably chimed in by now, but Pilate's three songs in JCS are "Pilate's Dream," "Pilate and Christ" (that's the "Who is this broken man cluttering up my hallllway" one), and then "Trial by Pilate" which is where you teach us all to count to 39. I love how you sing "Pilate's Dream" up almost a full octave (I think the original is in Bb minor, and you're doing it in G minor). Really beautiful. Was that your choice, or did the music director ask you to do that to show off your amazing range? I gotta know!
ОтветитьOMG! This is SERIOUSLY COOL!!!!! Thanks for sharing!
ОтветитьI saw the show at the Orpheum in San Francisco. One of the most memorable nights of my entire life.
You probably don't remember the incident, but after the show, I was showing my date around the theater, which she had never been in before that night.
Some fans were on stage, waiting to give you flowers. I saw you on stage and I called out to compliment you on your performance.
You replied something like, "Thanks. Did you see me? I played Mary Magdalene..."
Everybody cracked up.
Thank you so much for the memory, and for this post.
Rock on!!
JCS is my favorite show... directed it about 7 years ago. I saw this production, and you were every bit as brilliant as Barry Dennen...you made some beautiful choices in "Trial Before Pilate".
You, Ted and Carl... utter perfection! BTW, my friend Larry was Ted's understudy. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing this amazing gem! My heart is happy 🥰
I saw the performance in Montreal and it was great. I regret not buying the audio CD recording at the time.
ОтветитьWe had tix for this at the Paramount, and then I guess it was right after you took a spill off the stage and so we saw your understudy. A good show, but we missed you.
ОтветитьAh amazing and tears at the end
ОтветитьI saw you as Pilate on tour, and being a huge fan of Styx, I was thrilled to see you. I later lived in NYC for several years and now consider myself a huge fan of Broadway. You, Irene, Ted, and Carl brought these characters down to earth and humanized them for me. I was so excited to find this video of you playing Pilate. It brought back wonderful memories. Thank you for bringing back such a dear memory for me.
ОтветитьDennis was just perfect for this role. Much as I love Barry Dennen's (RIP) bar-setting performance, Dennis's vocal power really adds a dimension. Thanks for posting!
ОтветитьOh my God! that cape is gorgeous. Keep the cape that's what I would have kept! LOL
ОтветитьI saw your performance in San Francisco in 1993. God bless you, Brother.
ОтветитьThis was awesome! Thanks for sharing it!
ОтветитьStyx Paradise Theatre was set to be my first live concert. However, Tommy hurt his hand, if I remember correctly, and your show in Vancouver had to be cancelled. I was so heartbroken at the time, as a 12 year old kid. (Turned out my first live concert ended up being Elton John instead …. Not bad!!! lol But I still wanted it it be Styx.) When JC Superstar came to Vancouver and I heard you were Pilate, I was so excited. But you didn’t come to Vancouver with the show. It returned a few months later, I attended again, but you didn’t come that time either. (It was still a brilliant show, I loved it so much, but I wish you had come there with it.) I finally saw Styx live in the summer of 2019, and I am a longtime fan of Gowan as well, so I really enjoyed it too. But, I have still never seen a live performance by Dennis De Young to this day!
ОтветитьAwesome I saw this at the Universal Amphitheatre - still have the tshirt somewhere...
ОтветитьMy boyfriend and I saw you in JCS in Chicago (we’re both from the south burbs- Homewood-Flossmoor), and you were amazing! The pit kicked into “Come Sail Away” for your curtain call, and the crowd went absolutely crazy! I had goosebumps, and I’m so grateful we saw you! ♥️♥️
ОтветитьRIP Barry Dennen 💞
ОтветитьThis could have been Dennis and Tommy but he's too rock and roll.
ОтветитьDennis, that is the best insult: “every 4 to 6 weeks empty your bong water!”
