I love the Blackwater Saga and just anything by Michael McDowell. The Elementals is VERY atmospheric and creepy. I think you'll like it!

Since you mentioned unreliable narrator, you should check out "Beyond Apollo" by Barry Malzberg. When done right the shifty narrator really adds mystery to the story.

Well if I was going to start Terry Pratchett's Disc World series I think logically it would be with number 1?
I mean that's the beginning, right? Same with the Dresden Files, people said book 1 was not so good. But if you stop there you will miss so much goodness.

I will recommend a good series Stephen Kings Bill Hodges Trilogy which consists of Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers, End Of Watch and spin off is Holly. Highly underrated.

In my opinion, My most overated series has to be The Witcher series. I much prefer the games the very first book which is a collection of short stories is definitely the best by far whicg is just average.

Read a lot of book 1’s that I plan to continue with. They include:

Shogun (don’t know how interested I am in others)
Priest of Bones
Ender’s Game

I’m on book 2 of Dandelion Dynasty now and loving it.
I read the whole Pines trilogy and thought it was great. Continue to be impressed by Blake Crouch

More than anything so far in this video, I have learned about the thin line of humor in horror. What about in genre blenders? Anyhow, if there's anything that BookTube has taught me this year, is that I need to be reading more. Especially with POV stuff, the last video made me realize I don't really know how to do that stuff yet. Heck, I have a hard time with spelling and using a semi-colon!
Satire!

As a big fan of the solo books the show is done really well. The books are short so they had to add more content and characters and even tho they seem to be twisting things it’s done very well.

I started the John Dies at the end series and got upto book 4. Haven't finished that yet due to distraction. The first three are alot of fun. I like how these characters are plonked into different situations and the unpredictable nature of the drug. I've bought the rest of the author's work and I'll read more in the next year.

I was blown away by Good Omens, so I then picked up The Colour of Magic. It took ten years before a friend finally convinced my to read another Pratchett novel. DiscWorld has since become one of my favorite series. Pratchett's ability to explore important philosophical ideas and write humorous satire is incredible. I suspect he will eventually be taught in literature classes next to other greats like Jonathan Swift.

Good video, with cogent observations (even where I had a different experience.)

I tried to read The Colour of Magic first as well, and for the same reasons. Predictably enough, I DNFed it. I don't generally pick up a lot of books because of others' recommendations, but everyone I know was raving about the series, so I asked for advice. I read Guards! Guards! (because that was the recommended starting point from the people I talked to) and Going Postal (because I picked it up kind of randomly).

Nope.

It's statistically very likely that if you read further in the series you will like it much more than I did. (Everybody!)

But I have determined that Pratchett is just not a writer for me. Three bites at the apple and it's all worms and bruises.

Oh well. It's not as though I'm running out of things to read.

Thanks for the video. I would honestly say - given your preferences - i think you will love 'Snakewood' by Adrian Selby and 'The Black Tongue Thief' by Christopher Buehlman. Both are such underrated grounded dark fantasy novels with incredible characters and prose. Selby has a three book series int he same world, and Buehlman actually writes all sorts of stuff like fantasy, weird alternate history and horror. Defo check them out.

I hope after the show you pick up Silo again. Don't get me wrong, I think the show is doing great, but I think it's taking the core of the series and it's doing something slightly different, kinda like beacon 23 did. I love the Silo series and the show still has me guessing what it's doing
