The 2020 Volkswagen Jetta Is a Good Car Nobody Cares About

They're just not reliable. Never have been.

The 1.4 L turbo-charged 4-cylinder engine is what's kept me from getting one of these. I love them, but they're problem-prone.

I like bland.

Not a good car. Owner are reporting significant issues with the automatic transmission. As usual VW is trying to mask the issue.

typical shitbox (usa/mexico made) road noise. I have had 9 VW's and the newer they are, the louder they are. my 2013 cc is silent on the road, while all of my past jettas and passats had tons of road noise like that one. this is the reason why i decided against a GLI from this generation.

The infotainment system on this one is SO much better than the one on the new GTI

Doug can you do a Gli to give the jetta some redemption. The 40th just came out and there are only going to be 1984 of them so it's good and rare as well

I went from a 2014 Kia Forte to a 2020 Jetta GLI and I have to say... Getting that 2.0 TSI in that engine bay really makes a difference. Super fun and has all the tech when you grab the Autobahn. VW did a great job on the styling and roomy interior. I love it.

I actually like this car. It embraces the fact that you don’t need an suv with the “towing” consideration, has a large trunk for a compact car

People may have lost interest in the Jetta after the mk6 model engines proved to be problematic

ALSO YOU CAN LITERALLY GET AN SEL WITH LEATHER SEATS AND UPGRADED EVERYTHING AHHHHH DOUG YOU ARE DRIVING ME NUTS.

Also the HP on THIS model is 150 but the baseline model only has about 120.

Ok you can’t just call this a Jetta LOL this is a SEL. Hella hella hella more fancy interior wise than the baseline, AND it has a 1.5L engine instead of a 1.4 I’m kind of ashamed that you didn’t point that out Doug!

Massively disagree on the handling. It handles like a dream, especially the manual.

Other people can say they aren't fast but they will cruze at 90-110 mph German cars almost always feel they are most comfortable cruising between 70 - 100 mph with very low effort and without stress much better than American cars or Japanese cars that make you feel like your stressing the car to do more than 70 sorry that's my experience driving a lot of newer cars even

Cool fact vw desighned the mk7 jetta gli model before desighning the jetta! Backwards right! Thats how the mk7 regular jetta ended up with such impressive handling, stability and ofcourse aerodynamics!!!!(the styling is not for styling; its for aerrodynamics and stability(mk7 hetta has one of the lowest drag coefficients of new cars.

All car companies are seeing this occurring. Crossovers are far more practical as they're a bit higher off the ground and more headroom. Far more practical for cargo space, loading and unloading. Ingress/egress is also far more comfortable too. Had a Ford Fusion and then an Escape. I'd buy the escape anyway over the fusion.

I work at Advance Auto and have several customers that regret buying Jettas from 2016 onward.

Ironically, the jetta has gone up in dimension but reduced in weight.

Its been said that Volkswagen cars are money pit.

I just finished a 188 mile loop, 50 miles was boulevard/highway with 40-55 speed limits, the rest was interstate highway 60-75 speed limit, I averaged 47 mpg for the whole loop, with average of 55 mph for the whole trip, most of the highway driving was 68-72 mph, sometimes as high as 78 though, with adaptive cruise control on most of the time... 63 degrees, lots of fog and 10 minutes of drizzle, zero traffic, I did this between 2 and 5 in the morning... this was done with an 8 speed Auto, 2019 Jetta SEL with 98,000 miles on it, this car I rented from Turo. Denton, Texas area to Oklahoma border and back, flat roads. I may have to buy an SEL Premium or the GLI.

Is driver seat good for a 5'3" (160cm) tall person on jetta ?

I have a 2021 with 100k and only have changed the Oil regularly, the Air Filter and Back Brakes. Not too much power but very reliable...

Nobody cares about the Jetta because it's essentially a small, downgraded version of the Passat.

Waste of time talking about features only on the most premium trim.

Jettas are Cool they are better because they have that German luxury style unlike Japanese cars which are ugly and cheap inside.

Plus Jettas are cool to mod with mag wheels and lowered springs. They aren’t as popular VW golfs in Australia where I am from.
