Just to clarify here given there's a bit of confusion in the comments, when I said NIS was "redundant" I was specifically talking about the NIS SDK that game developers can implement in their games. The driver feature is obviously not redundant and like I said, the main (or only) advantage NIS has is that it's integrated into the driver

I'm gaming with an older 1660ti on a 2k monitor. It has been a game changer to upscale to 2k with this card. It allows me to get a more steady 60 fps even on an ancient workstation with this card.

I find in modern warfare 2 NIS looks clearer on ultra quality than DLSS on Quality mode. Maybe it's just me.

Nvidia Image Scaling is ... not very good. And which FSR are you using in the video? 2.0? Lossless Scaling only offers FSR 1.0 which is ... also not very good.

You mentioned that upscaling has been a basic feature for decades, you could always run game in a lower resolution, scaled either by the display or the driver. One question I have is what implied sharpening is used by the old method.

Appart from the UI thing, NIS is better at upscaling than FSR: slightly better detail conservation, slightly better edges too.

I personally find DLSS to be Nvidia's killer feature on the RTX cards not Ray tracing. I have a gaming laptop with a 2080 in it and I use DLSS all of the time to get 60fps when I'm using my laptop on a 4k TV screen at home.

I just bought a 4K 240Hz monitor and learning about all these different ways I can get better performance is giving me a headache lol. I really wish there was a way Nvidia could implement a driver-level DLSS upscaler, it would solve so many problems. There are some games I enjoy playing that are difficult to run at high resolutions with high FPS and have no upscaling options, like Apex Legends. It sucks that I'm most likely gonna have to sacrifice a lot of quality.

FSR with Lossless Scaling and other programs can go wrong giving worse performance than the native resolution with a significant degradation in quality. It depends on the game, I have tried a couple and I have read redditor that they tried different ones with the same thing happening. I haven't tried NIS yet and I don't know if it will pass this too, if it doesn't then you are right that it can be useful when you have neither DLSS nor FSR.

"Its not a one click feature" So having the option of which resolution you want to upscale from is a bad thing? I know its a lot harder to turn something in the settings to "on" but that comes with the freedom to choose base resolution, instead of just "performance, balanced, and quality", giving the choice between 10-20 different resolutions.

You can compare NIS and FSR with a steam app called lossless scaling both as post processing. Perhaps there is something wrong with NIS on AMD gpus but I think FSR is far superior on lower resolutions. For people with ageing low end cards FSR is a lifesaver and makes 900p much better looking when I'm just trying to play somethinng heavy like Cyberpunk. NIS looks like garbage, at least for me on an RX 570. This is why AI upsamplers are currently making no sense in a starving GPU market. FSR has basically proved that there is good reason to have spatial upscaling tech in the mix. Nvidia should support NIS. RSR and NIS is a win for everyone.

Either way competition is good here as NIS being driver level has forced AMD to make their FSR Dirver Level with "Radeon Super Resolution".

More people win out.

Now my question is will intel add a driver level upscaler that works on their GPUs as they are the black sheep in that regard especially now that AMD's hand was forced by NVIDIA.

At the very least Intel could rip the Open Source NIS and FSR and make it run better on their uArch and make it Driver Level.

Either way, RSR will be big for Steam Deck, Existing Ryzen Laptops, The G CPUs, and future Ryzen 6000 CPUs.

All those systems that had to run at 720p internally now can output 1080p which on a <20 inch screen, likely is a bigger improvement than IQ Detriments introduced by using it. Especially at the viewing distances for those types of systems.

Hi,

I've been doing some test with NIS on non DLSS games such as Days Gone or Far Cry 6.

i've seen that resolution for 4k at
85% should be 3264x1836but in my case its 3482x1662
77% should be 2954x1662 but in my case its 3151x1662

I use my LG C1 to play, no idea if that has some kind of importance.

Does someone knows why those resolutions are different?

Thanks

You can set individual games to use NIS, set image scaling to on in the global tab of the driver, then set the sharpening to 0%. Then on the programs tab any game that you what to use NIS for set the appropriate sharpening amount, and then in game set the appropriate resolution. So any game you have running at 100% resolution wont be sharpened, and games where you need a frame rate boost will be. I’ve been using if for a while like this on my old GTX 1080 and its working well.

The HUB anti NVIDIA attitude is clearly present on this video. All they say us that NIS IS next to pointless and so haaaaard to use... Come on. NIS Works with EVERY game and doesn't disable free Sync/g-sync like those 3rd party sh1t tools.

Of course it affects The UI beacouse it is used at driver level, but that didn't stop HUB to over emphasize it. I would choose NIS over FSR/3rd party Tool Combo every time. Use FSR or DLSS If game supports them. If not NIS is by far The best solution.

If AMD had done this same thing they would be praising it. That is for sure.
