Have you considered sanding the plastic sheet before printing onto it?

Im trying to fathom the fact that you cant go to a store to get supplies because there was that lock down, but you were able to get a McDonalds lattes. But even during the lock down you could still order things on line and have them shipped to you. That is just called madness

How about printing two layers as thin plastic hinge? should work, too. Maybe you have to do some tweaking to the extruder to make sure the lines bond well...

You may find that phthalates are being used for softening those plastic cups. Phthalates are very greasy feeling. Think of the plastic wrap used in grocery stores on meats.

Maybe use a drill and file for the holes? Not everything needs to be CNC!

IF you will find yourself some orange-oil based cleaner/de greaser, it will remove that spray glue without damaging your print surface. Wash it with soap and water after cleaning with the orange-oil based cleaner.

Going back to your mesh fabric idea... Here in Canada, most window screens are made with aluminium and compared to fabric would have very little stretch along with being fairly durable. Alternatively, some are made with fiberglass (or you could use fiberglass material used for automotive body fill). All these things are readily available at most hardware stores, thought I'd share my thoughts, although completely unfounded or researched!

Anybody try those binder section dividers? They are easily available at Dollar Tree stores here in america. Theyre thin plastic, flexible, and pretty durable.

You'd likely appreciate Ultrasonic friction welder. I got one for about $550, and I use it to friction weld 3D printed parts together. It works like a charm. I also can weld coroplast... make sure to wear ear protection...

With regards sticking the filament to the bed, use the timber routing trick of sticking masking tape to each surface then supergluing the two together.

I know I might be late to the party and using the cups from an Iced Coffee are a great way to get a nice treat as well as help research this further, but have you thought of using A4 sheets of acetate? They come in different thicknesses, you’ll get more for your money and although they won’t taste as nice as an Iced Coffee they won’t give you brain freeze when you drink them too quickly!

Great video, I have always wanted to get into these types of printers but they were always a tad too pricey. As I was watching you trying to find a thin flexible material to print out your hinges on my first thought was the thin vinyl sheets used on cricut machines or the Transfer Tape you use to transfer your vinyl design to whatever you are wanting to put it on. I don't know much about either one or if you would even begin to have the 3d print stick to either of those. Just a thought.

I guess this is where those printer laser combinations would come in handy but did you try printing some kind of outline guide rail to cut it with siccors or a knife instead of a laser?

What about engraving the hinge lines in the thicker plastic sheet with the laser cutter? That way you keep the rigid structure to print on and make the hinge parts less stiff

I'd try a thin layer of tpu then home change to petg etc..then restart the print should go right over the top 😉👍

For those who do not have a lazer. You could use a paper print and a hobby knife; with the understanding that it will not hold a candle to the quality the print could do

Some real world live hinges are made from PP - Polypropylene (recyle number 5). It excells at exacly live hinge scenario with enough flex and plenty of fatigue limit. You can print with it as i've seen PP filaments avvailable yet for thin films for livehinges, blowmolded and injection works better with PP.
