Unless the engine is desmodromic, the cam-shaft does not close the valves; springs do.

Great video! Curious as to why not have vtec on the intake too even with a turbo? Just that little bit more opening to push the air in easier? So even when the turbo isn’t creating a ton of boost can still push air in with less pressure. Is it due to simplifying the engine for less moving parts or to minimize cost?

I wonder, for exhaust, why not always use the higher lobe? I do understand the explanation of using VTEC on the intake valves, but on exhaust you could always use a high lift right? It just doesn't make sense to not get rid of all exhaust gasses during low rpm.

Does vtec not affect the cams duration ? Would it be worthwhile to get a larger lift/larger duration cam on a vtec engine to make at least a little more power?

If the advantage of a low profile cam lobe is to increase air flow rate and increase mixture. But why doesn't the exhaust value always have the high profile cam lobe?

So from what I understand, vtec is like power band? Second question: vtec was on the exhaust side. How would the car perform if it had turbo and vtec on exhaust and intake?
