If you want to use coffee beans, why not use an espresso machine make your coffee? It has a built in filter and remains hot. You can run as much water as you like through the same ground coffee

Just curious since caffeine alkaloids are more soulable in water in the salt form, and water brewed coffee has a ph of about 5. Wouldn't it make better since to just make a cup of coffee the normal way then reduce the volume, AND THEN add baking soda to convert the alkaloids into their freebase, then to do multiple washings with dcm until it has absorbed all the caffeine? ...just saying your yields would be more significant

instant coffee and direcct solvent extraction would most likely work better. liq-liq extraction is never good specially if you dont add anything to the water to change ph

I woundn't bother extracting it from coffee, because the caiffeine is possibly actually added to the grinded coffee as synthetic. chinese have also sold random bush leaves as tee in to the world.

As far as I know the cooking process decreases the caffeine.
I think you may possibly be right about blaming Folgers... It would theoretically make plenty of sense. Less caffeine in a can=more grounds needed in order to get high. Next thing you know you're at 8 cans per month and 2 pots per day. I've never done it in the crystal form before.

(ps: uncooked coffee beans are 2.5 times heavier than cooked. The extra water might even help the extraction process...also it won't stain your lab beakers brown (a 50% joke))

How about using an instapot for the first process

Just make some heavy puck espresso next time and boil it down to a near syrup, you'd be getting so more of the caffeine with way less volume. Its one way to still start from scratch but get to the point you'd need to faster and with more. The whole instant coffee thing is like cheating ngl. I used to do this in middle school because i was idk, crazy.. basically I'd carry a small vial full of condensed espresso and when i was falling asleep id swallow it down with some milk. Let the condensed espresso sit overnight in fridge to remove all the impurities that will fall to the bottom.

Put in 10g of coffee into a container followed by 4g of sodium carbonate, then add in 60mL of distilled water (increase amount of ingredients for larger quantities) , and then bring the solution to boil for 15 minutes, stir or shake occasionally to prevent it from foaming over, or turn down the heat to simmer, once the 15 minutes is over you can let it cool but make sure to keep the temp as high as possible, and then strain it in a coffee filter, and then add 100mL of boiling distilled water, then pour the mixture into a separatory funnel and then add 15mL of dichloromethane, and gently shake it around, after that pour out the DCM which has the caffeine in it, and repeat the process with the remaining coffee, and then pour the DCM into a clean separatory funnel along with a saturated salt solution to pull water from the solvent, and then gently shake it again before pouring out the DCM, and add in drying agents like molecular sieves and dry for 20 minutes before placing it into a new beaker, and the boil to remove the DCM, but don't overheat it as it will burn, and then, once dry, recrystallize the remaining substance with a 95% ethanol solution, and then let to rest in the freezer before vaccum filtering and letting it dry in the vaccum for a few minutes.
