Great video I almost made the same mistakes minus the carb but this is pretty much the build I was going for but I was going to try my hand at porting the head while it was off

Not trying to be negative but the whole point is to build it yourself! Personally I would get no satisfaction out of another man having to fix my build! And believe me I’ve failed at lots of stuff in my life but I always tore it back down and stated over till I got it right! I’m a mechanical contractor now with a hvac business so I rarely work on my own vehicles anymore only to teach my sons but I started life in a small engine shop my first race kart engine build I completed was sweet all the guys in the shop who helped teach me came out for the start up when that thing fired up I was on cloud 9 for the first 10 or so seconds she purred before locking up due to me not adding oil!😂 everyone laughed at me for a bit and said your gonna be an expert because you get to start over and do it again. Next time bud don’t quit tear it back down and make it right!👍 But it was cool of you to do it for him you seem like a nice guy! Like I said not trying to be a smart ass but I tell my boys the same thing and never bail them out I make them do it I only give them advice.

I've got a quick question about valve springs, I built my predator 224 with a flat top piston, billet rod, flywheel, and 18lb valve springs. Should I upgrade them to something like 22 or even 26lb ones or should I keep running the 18lb ones?

I just got my first engine build done it all started with a Honda gx160 I had laying around hopefully it’s a beast when I get to run it

I worked with a guy back in the late 90s! They raced carts and was telling me some of their refreshed engines was around $700 back then!!!

Does that style of piston only require 1 ring?

Honestly I think it's kinda shitty that they sold him this kit . They are depending on people who don't know any better to buy it because people that are more experienced in building small engines would know that it isn't worth the money. I think you are correct they are selling those kits to get rid of parts they can't sell by themselves because they are either junk or outdated.

I'm just getting into this because I bought some drift trikes for my daughter, and I but want more power I'm a mechanic but these engine always kicked my butt when I was a kid so I'm glad I found you and this Chanel because it's a great learning experience definitely have some tools to buy lol

I built several "okay" engines before I built a winners circle engine . It's part of the learning curve . Jose is on his way to building great engines .

Question for you, when I was racing karts and building 5HP Briggs L heads I would run a tube from the crankcase breather to a catch can, what kind of breather line set up are they running on these 212 predators now days ?
I’m in the process of building a mini bike frame and motor to take to the smokeout in September so this will be my first build on this platform

For what you are doing there is no need to film in 60fps. All of your videos would be fine at 2k-30FPS. You are not making films for Red Bull with a drone chasing a snow boarder down a mountain at Lake Tahoe.

When you installed the 36lb springs did you need to replace the retainers? I see that 26lb call for dj-1047 where 36 says to use dj-1046. I'm running almost identical (265 cam, 1.2 rockers) with the 26lb springs and you're making me wonder if I need to upgrade. I am running the shorter pushrods that GPS recommended (5.26?) So haven't had a coil bind issue

Hey red beard you mentioned companys inflating horsepower numbers
about 15 years ago all the major lawn equipment manufacturers got sued over inflated horsepower ratings thats why you cant buy lawn equipment anymore with a horsepower rating its all cc's now instead of an actual horsepower rating

What oil would you recommend for break in.... I just bought a predator 212 and immediately replaced the carb to VM22 and exhaust.. my kit cam with main jets but largest was a 125.. everything else is stock.. but, I work on cars and know you can't put in what you can't get out.. heard a 127.5 - 130 main jet is best.. don't know yet cause I haven't started yet.. manual says 5w30 - 10w30 but not sure if I can run normal motor oil.. any help greatly appreciated... thanks in advance.....

My two 12th predator I put in a new carburetor I believe it's between series and there's a bunch of gasoline coming up on the bottom holes where you put the cover it and I mean the the gas coming out for my dirty anybody
