Shoes - I like lightweight mid-top day hiking boots . . . the ankle protection kicks ass . . . the soles are grippy . . . Salomon X Ultra 3 Mid GTX, Salomon Cross Hike Mid GTX, or similar

If theyre not comfortable and dont do the job then you wont wear it..right after saying buy a cheap hip pack 😂 buy cheap gloves but buy expensive shoes because theyre an important contact point 😂 dont buy cheap shit. If you can afford better buy better. If a fanny pack from the 80s is all you can afford then great use it. But dont cheap out on a hip pack and whine cuz its garbage and hate it and denounce all hip packs. Buy the best you can afford. And when possible buy sport specific products a $100 pair of mtb will destroy even a $120 pair of non mtb shoes. And a $60 mtb hip pack is way more than 100% better than a $50 what ever hip pack. Protection and function is most important but dont forget if its and ugly uncomfortable POS then chances are you wont use it. Id rather spend $100 on a over priced pair of socks that i act use than $20 on a pair of socks that just stays home cuz theyre awful. I really wouldnt spend $20 on a pair of socks anyways but you get the point lol

Buy everything you're SPENDING on, for sale online, shop around multiple sites, look at brands you might not know of, the most well known brands (looking at you Fox) might not be the best items (definately when it comes to knee pads), look at review sites before making a decision.. When it comes to SAVING, i never wear long shorts anyway, so my $12NZD shorts are working fine & have taken 2 crashes so far.. And as for gloves.. I totally agree on the whole expensive models are overrated thing, but a workaround to get the protection you need for a half or 3rd the price is to go to a hardware store & get some demolition gloves. More protection than most expensive DH gloves i looked at, still breathable & touch screen capacitive, and only for $25NZD..

Definately SPEND on a helmet, if you get a full face but your not only going to be shuttling (if you have to ride up to get down), then i cant recommend the Leatt MTB 4.0, a DH spec helmet aimed at aggressive Enduro riders. No removable chinar but the 24 vents are so well designed that it breathes better than my Fox Flux open face helmet! Then the shoes i SPENT on, Ride Concept Vice, look just like a skate shoe, but with toe protection, better built than a skate shoe, but i bought online for $120NZD, cheaper than any brand skate shoe except for ones on ludicrous sales.. So shop around.. same with all your components.. Now for pants, i think that's one i will SPEND on, but only what's on sale..

Glove tip: The Fast Fit Mechanix gloves last a lot longer than the MTB gloves I've tried - just turn them inside out and trim away any extra material in the finger tip area before putting them into rotation.

Pants. Cheap, cheap…works. Sam’s Club Denali performance long pants are $13.00. Spandex and nylon, are surprisingly wind resistant and water resistant. These pants totally shocked me as to how well they ride on the bike, the black ones look like expensive MTB pants minus the logos. But of course my modeling career as a MTB model has suffered without logos plastered on my ass.

Looking for the best knee/shin guard combo that is also comfortable for those longer climbing days. Any recommendations? So far looking at ION K-PACT SELECT KNEE/SHIN GUARDS, 7IDP Sam hills, G force PRO-RUGGED MTB KNEE-SHIN GUARDS. Thanks in advance!

Actually you can save on pants/shorts too - I am riding in Adidas tapered-fit football pants. These are nice one and come a 3 times less the price of my Alpinestars. :) In my opinion, you can save on everything that is not related to protection and your safety.

I wear jersey I bought at walmart. Prefer to save money on a better helmet. For shorts I really love Endura. Even with shipping and duties it's still cheaper and with more features compare to those $100+ big branded shorts I got in a Canadian bike shop.
