It’s all in the turn, if your right arm folds too much…you haven’t turned back correctly
ОтветитьI've been working on this for over forty years. I have a really fast tempo similar to Lanny Wadkins. I sometimes overswing and dip the club at the top. Not nearly as much as Daly but I can see the head of my driver slightly in my left eye in the backswing. When this bounce happens my lower body gets out in front and I have no choice but to flip the club to get it back to the ball. When I control the backswing, I control the flip.
ОтветитьOver-swinging causes a lot of problems for me. Over the top, hitting fat and thin, slicing, hooking…yikes. But if I have a good take away and only go back until I feel a bit of tension in my waist, I hit it dead straight and far. I feel like the club is only waist high and think about hitting a hard pitch shot. Works every time. Thanks.
ОтветитьAmazing how all my mistakes are in this video, overswinging, collapsed at the top and collapsed lower body, all connected, need to move slightly on plane and shorten the swing and I think I'm on the money.
ОтветитьI normally try not to use much wrist during my swing and time the impact w body. I noticed that giving a little pressure at the top w my right wrist naturally involved a little more wrist during my downswing and started closing the face a lot more.
Do you recommend this “feel” of right hand pushing out during an actual swing?
great tip, easy and good demos and videos of pros.
ОтветитьRemember, John Daly won 2 major overswinging
ОтветитьJohn Rahm has a short backswing and such a powerful through swing.
ОтветитьI like how you took the shot at the end but kept it raw! No BS here!
ОтветитьDo you have a drill that can help me to not only have a shorter backswing, but stops me from getting in front of the ball in my through swing. I overswing to bring me in front of the ball and stay there through my whole swing. Thanks for your help!
ОтветитьReally helpful thank you.
ОтветитьI didn't realize how bad I was overswinging until I joined a place with Trackman 2 months ago. I have watched many video's trying to correct. Haven't actually hit balls yet, but the push drill sounds and feels very promising. Thank you!
ОтветитьHow does John Daley make his swing work?
ОтветитьI see why I have an overswing now....im not that flexible so I turn my body a lot during the backswing to overcompensate which causes my club to go waaaay far back
ОтветитьWow! Great video. I've always wanted a more compact/efficient swing but struggled to find the right feel at the top. I am a classic overswinger who sets really late. The trail hand pushing out was a great feel to get extension and a good set a the top of the swing. I tried the drill and have had a couple of range sessions. Always cautious of claiming a golf tip the holy grail, but I was flushing irons consistently high and straight. It felt a lot more 'in control'. The only club I struggled with was the driver. Dead pulls.
Ответитьwow i love shorten backswing!!
ОтветитьShorten backswing with driver and
3 wood....?.
One of the best tips ever...I was looking to compact my swing a little, without success. Then I seen Adam's tip with regard to feeling the pressure (right handed golfer) of the right hand palm against the left hand thumb. with instant results. I now have a shorter back swing with the club on plane and a neutral club face. with the result I'm more consistent off the tee and my longer irons are better. this is the Holy Grail of golf tips. thanks Adam.
ОтветитьGood morning Adam!!! You suggested this upward push drill for me in a one-on-one lesson last year. It occurred to me that when I am doing it, as in my actual golf swing, I felt I was pushing more with my left hand to get wrist hinge. Should I start making the change? I can definitely feel the difference. Thank you.
ОтветитьWorked amazingly for me, 1st range session I pretty much stopped over swinging. Tighter dispersion and better flight. Only thing is I lost about 8/10 yards on most irons. Put this down to not feeling comfortable as my old swing. I'm sure distance will come like my old swing, you think?
ОтветитьGreat Video. Ive been working on this exactly for a year now. Its getting much better but I gotta stay on it cuz the over swing tries to creep in once in awhile.
Ответитьthank you. you gave a clue to fix my right elbow squizing at the back swing top.
ОтветитьGreat video, this video and working on the drills have helped me with overswinging. Thanks
ОтветитьAI like all your video’s. You are a great teacher!! Thank
ОтветитьAnother excellent video, Adam. What else can we do to help keep these great videos coming? So generous of you to share your knowledge...would really like to help. Thank you!
ОтветитьGreat video Adam. I loved when you played Sylvester Marcus in Its a Mad Mad World.
ОтветитьGreat video and tips! Overswing is one of my main faults so looking forward to testing these drills out.
ОтветитьAdam with your videos, my game is getting better. The fluent motion of the backswing and follow through, seem to take me out of position if I rush it either way, it try and muscle the follow through.Your swing is very fluent , can you hit on this subject again sometime with a drill for both directions of the swing? Thank you again for your wonderful instruction.
ОтветитьNice, tips, two,
Very helpful to learner...
Thank you...
Another good Video. Something we all need to take away from watching Adam, is that swing tempo.
ОтветитьMe: ahh finally refreshed on the key fundamentals of the perfect swing and hit. Should shave some strokes off my game.
Me on the course the next day: mother f*@king goofy ass club not hitting the damn ball straight!
Thanks for making it simple
Great way, I’m going to do that drill
This morning.
Thank you Adam!
ОтветитьSo does Freddy Couples overswing?
ОтветитьAs a righthander that plays lefty I really dont know what my trail arm is offering to the swing. Im hitting ok as a mid to high handicapper, just have to strengthen my grip with the driver to stop big slices. Im probably pulling the club with my lead right hand. Should I exercise my left arm by trying to hit the ball without using my right or just keep practicing/playing with both? Single hand right, both left, have been all my life.
Ответить👍🏼👍🏼
ОтветитьA great reinforcement. I don't have to worry about over swinging but this simple explanation and the videos gives a great visual to getting it right.
ОтветитьThanks, Adam! Exactly the topic I was hoping you'd cover... I can make perfect practice swings, but when I'm over the ball - the overswing (and slight pause at the top) come in to play. Wondering if that's more mental than anything...
ОтветитьLove your instructional videos. I can't tell you how much they've helped me. I'm hitting shots like I never have before. I only wish I had gained this knowledge when I was younger and playing a lot. I got good but it was mostly through endless practice and "feel" which would come and go and leave me confused at times. Your paid material is a steal. Where I live 1 single lesson costs up to $200/hr! Thanks!
ОтветитьI stopped over swinging and my contact is money.
ОтветитьGreat video Adam! I will definitely use these tips :-)
ОтветитьGreat stuff as always, love your videos
ОтветитьThink a lot of the problem is we see these tour players that have the club so high and deep and we try to copy that then the reverse pivots, casting and everything else that can go wrong starts. We need to copy Tony Finau
ОтветитьA reminder....hips must turn with shoulders, in sync, on takeaway, to acheive proper turn and club position. No hips= out of sync=over-the-top downswing, even if your club position, at pause/top of desired backswing is accomplished. Short irons not as demanding, but still a timing factor. Pushing right hand(righties) against left thumb at top of desired backswing is a great feel tool for hinged full shots. Bobby Jones mentioned it as did Hogan. However, not advised for punch/low burner shots. Thanks for the vid. I sure do miss bermuda grass....and most of Florida for that matter.
