Whatever you do never buy 3d or 2d character models there nothing you can do with them in the long run and no originality will come from it! They cost a lot of money for nothing! And if you just want to modify it to make it your own then you might as well create your own.

This is like buying a soundtrack to add to your scene that everyone else can used. It loses it authenticity! Don't be like all these tv and movies that used the same songs!
