RTX 4070 Super vs PS5: How Much Faster/Better Are Today's Mid-Range GPUs?

Ng wrong with a 4070. Im getting over 500 fps on a 3840x 1080 screen. Have to gsync it down to 144Hz cap. Computer is ranked 100% for all 2024 games at max settings. If you have issues with a 4070 not getting at least 100FPS on max, you either have a bad PSU, over clocking hence being throttled, or using an Intel processor, which again throttles if OC because of their high temps. A 4070 is more than enough for any game released up to this point on max. A playstation is a cheap version of a game as console games are very limited. Always have been, always will.

Given that a playstation is basically what a gaming PC was 10 years ago in power, then even a 1070 GTX can beat a new playstation.

Thinking of switching to PC from series X and looking at this card. My question is can this do native 1440p/4K or do you NEED upscalers/ and frame gen.

PS5 has no shader stutter that is a massive plus though I'd still take my PC over a PS5 I don't own

both the xbox series x and ps5 are around as powerful as about a 2070 super to a 2080 super at best. extrapolate performance from there.

Forget Visuals and FPS comparisons ! Buy a game for ps5 ( even second hand ) then buy the same game for PC - THAT'S what REALLY MATTERS - PC gamers, whatever GPU they have, save a heap of money - PlayStation ( and XBOX ) games are ridiculously overpriced!

I would say whatever GPU is around 400 would be considered midrange. Not a 600 dollar gpu. 600 dollar gpu is fringing on high end gaming. So go buy a 400 dollar gpu and redo this video. This is ridiculous. Of course a 600 dollar gpu will destroy the PS5. 100 dollars more than the whole console and it is a new gpu. Digital Foundry has lost their mind on this comparison.

I dunno, we need a new term. Today the 3070/4070 like series should probably be called “High End” and 4080/4090 should be “Ultra High End”. Definitely not mid range by the price.

yeah it runs 3 times better wih latest iteration of dlss and dedicated cores compared to a console with a 4 years old SoC, which also costs less than the card itself. To some it may seem like a massive difference and they are right but when a game is playable (at least stable 30 fps) with decent visuals on console for most gamers (not graphics enthsiasts) this becomes irrelevant.

This gen consoles are junk. I own the series X and ps5 and they are lacking not only in games but performance.

Man how many times do I have to say it stop devaluing GPUs. At least Tech Yes City has it right. A RTX 4070 and cards on that simillar level more or less 10 percent slower or faster are upper midrange. A rtx 4070 rightnow is a upper midrange gpu. NOT FUCKING MIDRANGE at least not yet.

But what nonsense to compare a graphics card with more than 600, which is the latest in Nvidia graphic architecture, with a console from more than 3 years ago and calling a 4070 mid-range is a scam and in a few years the mid-range will be the 80 series I wouldn't be surprised.

Talking about UE5, in Robocop DLSS and FSR are worse the TSR. There are way less artifacts when using TSR

But freaking hell, this is BAIT AF. Why the hell would you compare one component with an entire machine? Like imagine doing a comparison of a Tesla Model 3 with the engine of a McLaren F1 and say both cost the same but one (when fully build) is faster.

I grabbed a steam deck, a ps5 and a series x, and am very happy to now be done with pc desktop gaming as i won't dance to nvida's tune.

So, how can stuff a 4070 super in my PS5, to get a GPU upgrade?

Videogames are an entertainment hobby not a FPS compteiton advertising to some corporations sell more through reviewers on the pay-roll... let's put some information betwees ads please...

4070 Super is only mid-range if looked at in terms of the RTX 40 series. Considering the majority of people don't have a 40 series card and are still rocking cards from the 10, 20 and less commonly 30 series (and their AMD equivalents) AND considering how the 4070 Super can go toe-to-toe with a 3080 TI, I'd call the 4070 Super a low-end-of-the-high-tier card realistically.

Goddamn, I didn't quite realize just how far behind the console GPUs actually are from things like the 4070. Considering we're not getting the next Playstation until 2027-2028 this means the next gen will have had 3, almost 4 GPU gens worth of improvement over the current consoles. The fact that you could easily do Pathtraced CP2077 while matching the PS5's other settings/res and still get nearly double performance is nuts.

The comparison is a bit absurd. On a €449 PS5 connected to the TV, The Last of Us (TLOU) runs at 35 fps, while on a €699 4070 (without a PC...), you get 0 fps.
