My writing partner in my last band (this was...nine?..years ago...yikes) had one of these on his board and he loved it. Used it exactly like you did in the latter part of this demo, it sounded a little boxy on its own but really came out front in a band mix. He was using a variety of electric tenor guitars at the time.

It sounds fine to me, definitely useable. I thought about getting it a couple of years ago, when I found it discounted by 35% or so. Regrets... 😂
Funny story, around 20 years ago, when I started learning about gear, I got a Marshall Drivemaster in mint condition, complete with its box and manual, for 60 euros. I didn't like it, I found it dull and boring, so I quickly sold it for the same I paid, believing I dodged a bullet. Now I know I didn't have a clue about properly using it! 😅 At some point I realised overdrives are amp boosts, or pushers like you said, the Drivemaster would have excelled at that task. Since then, whenever I read "overdrive" I never consider laying it over a clean channel, the Lumberjack not being an exception.

If EHX comes out with a pedal and you think the sounds are bad; you either don't know how to use it and/or thoroughly lack creativity. EHX doesn't do "bad." Affordable? Yes. Maybe not the sturdiest, most durable pieces of kit? Sure. "Bad?" Nahh, never.

5 years from now Joshua Heath Scott will do a video on this pedal and everyone will start listing it for hundreds of dollars

That sounds like the overdrive from a roland bolt 60 amp, which was a similar cascading drive circuit...

I like that but I need another drive pedal like I need another fuzz or reverb or.....well another drive can't hurt lol

Tried putting a bunch of pedals with it, it's like chasing the magic dragon trying to use that background fizz as it's kind of the point of the pedal. I found it sounds good with a chorus pedal after it and and boosting it with a Pure Sky which added some clarity but my favorite was pushing an ehx Glove through it at 1/4 gain, good punchy tone.

It works for me and sounds really good stacked with other pedals, with a bit of tweaking and dialling it in when stacking with other pedals you can get some very good, different sounding drive tones which adds to creating your own personal guitar tones, and not sounding exactly the same as everyone else or your favourite guitarist. Being a musician, songwriter in a band is about coming up with decent songs that have our own stamp & characteristics on them, sorry but I really don’t see the point trying to sound like someone else and other bands gone before.
This pedal doesn’t deserve the bad press it’s got, might not be the best pedal ever but it’s definitely not the worst I’ve used or heard.

Perfect anything the collectors and the picture posters hate is probably incredible! I remember back in HC days 20 years ago they would flip shit before it arrived, buy the same thing 4 times, freak out over dumb shit like paint jobs that are going to get messed up as soon as you go on the road….. wait that’s right they don’t actually play music. 200 pics 0 songs, very valid opinions abound.

The worst pedal I ever had was a red plastic Kay Wah-Wah pedal that came in a plastic case like the cheap toy it was ($5)...I wish I had it now!😂
