Godzilla vs Kong - Big, Dumb and... Fun?

Critical Drinker never fails to make me laugh. He focused way too much on the human element of this movie. It's a giant lizard vs a giant ape. Does he also go into a Jackass movie and expect a compelling storytelling?

I feel like a lot of critics suck the fun out of movies or what would be a more accurate way of describing it nitpicking at everything to the point where they can't recognize that some of the movies they do this to are genuinely pretty darn good, great even.

This movie is awesome and by far the most fun I’ve had at the movies since 3rd grade.
Screw arcs. You can’t have something without giving something away and the small details of the fights, the lore, the setting, the colors, even the relative intelligence levels of Kong and Godzilla make it a masterpiece in visual storytelling and so much fun.

I really hope you watch and review Godzilla Minus One! For every area that Godzilla Vs Kong got wrong, Minus One got spectacularly right with well-written characters you actually care about, and action with emotional weight to it.

I was all in for a good monster movie, but this one was just too dumb for me. I'd say Godzilla King Of The Monsters is the best you can get out of a monster's movie, without it being too long to cram in character development and big satisfying fights.

Usually I would agree with this guy... but this review was straight up bad. Sure the human element was bland, but a lot of his "problems" with the lore would not exist if he knew the lore, or at the very least paid attention to the human dialogue instead of shoving beer up his backside. The humans never recruited kong to fight godzilla. All they wanted kong for was to show them the way to the hollow earth energy source as well as finding him a bigger home since he was growing to big for his enclosure, it was literally stated near the beginning of the movie. Kong in Skull Island was still an adolescent, thats why he was small compared to Kong in GVK. Godzilla attacked kong because he was territorial, not to mention Godzilla and kong species were at war millions of years ago. Kong's ancestors were the ones who made that structure in hollow earth as well was the axe which they used during the war. Doesn't take more than a simple google search to find that out. The reason why Godzilla attacked the cities was because Simmons used ghidorah's alpha call to antagonise Godzilla, to turn the public against him. The reason why Mechagodzilla went rogue was because the humans were using ghidorah's skull to pilot the mech, but ghidorah took control of it, due to genetic memory within the skull. Genetic memory was also why kong was able to find the ancient structure... this was also stated in the movie seconds after the humans entered hollow earth. Why did the humans use ghidorah's skull? It was also stated by the humans. This review can be summed up in one word. Pretentious. All this guy did was half arsed the movie and probably skipped the human part, which is understandable considering how bland it was, but that meant he also missed major exposition.

The only dumb monster movie with humans I cared about was in Pacific Rim because those characters were punching the monsters (in giant mechs)

You can't slate on one brainless movie and then say another brainless movie is fun.

First time I have disagreed with old Scottish Drinker.

I guess the point is, the original Godzilla movies were made for low budgets, but with these films they are spending hundreds of millions of dollars...couldn't they find a couple hundred grand to hire a decent writer?

Is Drinker blind? It’s very obvious how much damage is being dealt. And Godzilla and Kong are very definable characters. So seeing them on screen is always a blessing.

The sad thing is this looks like it's better than Kurtzman "Star Trek," the "Picard" series, "Ghostbusters" (2016), the sequel STAR WARS trilogy, or the upcoming 5th "Indiana Jones." Maybe this GODZILLA film is watchable after all. Sigh. 😴

"You don't watch a Godzilla movie for the compelling storylines. You want to see monsters blow shit up." On the surface, this is also the appeal of Pacific Rim. Though Pacific Rim actually had the humans fight the Kaiju in giant robots, rather than conscripting a big ape they couldn't even be sure wouldn't just team up with Godzilla...

Human Characters having to much screentime? Check!
Monster Battle having no weight behind them? Check!
The Studio to afraid to declare a true Winner by killing of the other one becuase it would piss of one of the two sides in the fanbase? Check!

At least they gave Godzilla the deserved technicle win.

Couldn't last past the first five minutes.

The thing that really bothered me about this movie was the inconsistent scale. Godzilla in the other movies and this one is WAAYYY too big to be on the deck of an aircraft carrier WITH King Kong. The scale of Godzilla and King Kong was never the same between any scenes. King Kong would have been way too big to be chained on an aircraft carrier if he remained the same size as he was in the previous film and other scenes.

They spent a lot of money on rebuilding

Instead of this cgi 💩 I recommend "War Of The Gargantuas". On iTunes it's called "Godzilla: War Of The Gargantuas". The destruction is real!

I honestly can't bring myself to bash any of the new Godzilla movies. I'm just glad they are actually making new updated classic Godzilla monsters and fights. I'm cool with it. Never wanted a plot.

Not fun. Not just as a Kong and Godzilla fan. The writing and characterization (especially concerning the monsters) is terrible. It barely has any connectivity to rest of this supposedly shared universe and just feels like a disjointed sequel. It feels like it as made to win a playground argument and every other aspect took a back seat. For the long awaited rematch between the two biggest monsters in cinema, this was a massive disappointment.
