I believe the biggest political mistake in North America was giving women the vote.
ОтветитьFyi, other reasons why so many people drank liquor is because it acted as a medicine for them to kill pain, fight depression, aid in stomach indigestion, to improve bowl movement, to enhance sex and more. Btw, I'm a dump digger and its amazing how many liquor, wine, champagne and beer bottles I find that got thrown away.
ОтветитьMy home in CT was built in 1920
ОтветитьLove the guy complaining that the the immigrants are too loud, coming from an American.
Ответить"If we ppl want something badly, they will find a way to get it."
This entire documentary is why we should never ban guns. Criminals will never give up their guns so why should we? And the thought of the government and police being the only ppl allowed to carry is TYRAffying 🙃
I grew up in east haven.. so cool to see old photos of Branford / EH
ОтветитьBoardwalk Empire
ОтветитьIt seems like people back then weren't too intelligent the temperance movement was right alcohol is nothing but a destructive force more people have died from drunk driving and what you can imagine if they would have been smart back then they should have been embraced prohibition in this country would be a lot better than what it is now personally I don't even want to be involved with people that drink too much most of them seem to turn out to be losers
ОтветитьYou just can't take alcohol away from white people that's just wrong lol. that's all they have 😂
ОтветитьThank you so much for this video! My 9th great grandfather was one of the original proprietors of Norwich. He got his land from Uncas. His first recorded event was marriage to my 9th great grandmother, in Saybrook in 1628.
I have lived in Washington my entire life. This is the best amount I've ever heard of what early life way like in Connecticut.
This is illuminating!
It's funny how Skull and Bones and Scottish Rite always stick their noses in everyone's lives. They think they are God. Creating caos and wars. Corrupt hypocrites, all of them. They do the same thing with illegal drugs today. $ is their only motivation. Only the poor pay for their crimes.
ОтветитьHistory rhymes
ОтветитьProhibition created gin runners and the black market for alcohol, which created the mafia. It also got Joe Kennedy rich as a gin runner, who became intimately involved with the mafia, the both of which put JFK in the White House, and unfortunately, Arlington National Cemetery. Alcoholism continued to be a problem. I'd call that a major league backfire.
ОтветитьIn every self inflicted disaster the USA has endured, it's own fundamentalist religious people were the cause.
ОтветитьLove all the old-time footage from back in the day but boy have they stretched out the story too long with that voice. I am at minute seven and I can't stand it any longer. But hey, I am watching it in the morning!
ОтветитьPuritan fanatical insanity.
ОтветитьWestport may be in Connecticut but Connecticut people don't live there. It is a place for overly rich New Yorkers. Westport is NOT Connecticut. Connecticut people have class.
ОтветитьRunning booze is how Joe Kennedy AKA BOOTLEG JOE amassed the family fortune which he would use to finance his sons campaign for president, JFK
ОтветитьMany of the supporters of the prohibition were women and children that lived in poverty and were abused by their drunken husbands! Alcohol, like drugs destroys families
ОтветитьVery informative!
ОтветитьLet's Go Brandon!
ОтветитьThe failure of prohibition is the single greatest achievement of American Society - - - except they should have fought marijuana prohibition as well. ALL prohibition is garbage.
ОтветитьThat’s General Tom Thumb, Thank you very much.
ОтветитьIt's kind of sad that people couldn't seem to enjoy life without drinking.
ОтветитьFunny that it ends with "Amen"
ОтветитьSuch a fuss about a drug that destroys brain cell connections, increases crime, has no nutritional value, wastes money, causes dehydration, breaks up families, uses grain that people need for food, is denounced in scripture, and is one of the major causes of cancer .. is astounding.
ОтветитьThis was a fantastic documentary. Very interesting!!
ОтветитьI really enjoyed the fruits of your labor - great job! I live in Trumbull CT and this was fascinating.Amazing how many aspects of modern life are prompted by prohibition!
ОтветитьSigning a pledge to drink no more doesn't sound like temperance to me. Why was alcoholism so rampant? I find that strange. Was liquor so cheap or something?
So many times a movement will have a name that sounds good, and they use that name to promote what they do. However, what they name is, or what their name is, is not much about what they really do. It's often used as stalking horse, something that might look harmless, that they can hide behind so they can sneak up on their game.
Prohibition is a result of church movements.
Any time religion gets involved in American politics the results are never good.
Would be a good doctoral thesis to fact check the claims made by the temperance movement against the reality of history instead of taking their word for it.
thank you for this documentary. it rivals Ken Burns which is a high bar.
Ответитьstill cant buy liqour in grocery stores
Ответитьwish they'd do it with marijuana in n.y. pretty fuckin soon. I ain't getting any younger.
Ответить...... prohibition movement post civil war was a farse.... it was a movement to shoot holes in our sovereignty..... did more damage than good.... if it did any good at all..... all the pieces fell in place for an absurd interpretation of Catholicism was able to gain a foot hold in our communities.... based on hypocrisy and a more seditious appetite for imperialistic inspiration here on this side of the Atlantic ... they took the opportunity to mock and tear at the idea a nation could seperated church and state without a fight.... so now 100 years later its gone to a new and more dangerous doubling down on breaking America from within by compromising its principles of sovereignty.... now push has come too shove.... and millions of Catholics in the United States are disavowing there faith .... choosing country over god..... a civil war looms.... and it will be a bloody one....
Ответить...Anyone feel like a drink? 😅😅
Ответитьsmoking was the largest growth by these woman folks - torches of freedom.
ОтветитьOne of the best documentaries on the internet to date. Thanks!
ОтветитьLegalising AL CAPONE Has a proven a great success in usa ask your daughter.
ОтветитьBoring
ОтветитьI always thought Carrie Nation was just one of those older single bitter kind of people. She just kind of was pissed off she was single so she had to take her anger out on something. I mean I have very liberal views but its not like like I'm gonna break the windows in churches or even protest say a gun rally or NRA meeting.
ОтветитьIt's outstanding how people can repeat the exact same mistakes? this is a mandatory documentary for weed prohibition advocates
ОтветитьGreat documentary, but the narrator's speech impediment is really distracting.
ОтветитьYou can take away many things from a man, his job, his pride, his dignity, but you DO NOT take away his beer.
Ответитьv good job. intelligent, informative, interesting. thanx 4 posting.
Ответить"A1 Steak Sauce!" Most dramatic and intense quote of the entire documentary, has nothing to do with alcohol.
Ответитьpenalizar NO es la respuesta a la naturaleza humana, legalicen las drogas ¡ya!
