I’m DONE with Garmin race predictor! This alternative is probably better for finding goal pace.

Firstly. Not all races are the same, its a average. secondly it can only see weight (if you set it) age (again if you set it) and other data it can gather. your training might skew the data unintentionally
you build/ bone muscle makeup, might also skew the data. its a good estimate for most people.

I share your skepticism of the Garmin race predictor. In fact, I question if anything is accurate with mine. The sprint pace is always wrong, along with the respiratory rate. Even the distances can be off as much as 10%. I guess it's all the algorithm. Regardless, you have entertaining and informative videos that don't take forever to watch. Good luck!

you would get more accurate data with a chest strap, or highly rated optical arm band. A heavy watch on your wrist is prone to errors in HR. I use the Rhythm 24 from schoche and have perfect HR with comfort.

Opposite to your problem, My garmin race pace is too ambitious.

I have been wearing my FR945 day and night (thanks to the great long lasting battery) since the start of my running experience. I trained for a 25m 5k. I ran completely on feeling and did it comfortably in 23.17. My Garmin predicted a 22.58 so not to far off.

Ran a very easy 5k today never letting my HR go above 140bpm and beat my race predictor by 4 minutes lol just like you I was wearing the damn thing and it still thinks my best time is 4 min slower than my easy time.

Exactly the same with my Garmin, STRYD is in a completely another level.
Nice videos, thanks!

You probably should get yourself a heart rate strap as, in my experience apart from the Apple Watch, all the wrist based heart rate detectors are poor and all these race predictors are based off your V02 max. Also it actually more crucial to know your easy pace as this it what you should be doing 80% of your training in. Good luck on getting a sub 2 hour half marathon.

Very true. I have the same watch. They have room for improvement. The funny one for me is when it tells me to take a rest day but waits till I am in the street and press start run. Like I am really going to go back inside.

Garmin sometimes tells me I can run a sub 3 marathon hahahah! I laugh at that! Sometimes it tells me to train at a very very beyond slow pace! It kinda confuses me! Congrats on the 5k time!!!
