One of the other lost games that we never got to see was the original PC/Mac version of Halo, before Microsoft bought out Bungie and had them re-write the whole engine from scratch to be a BSP based indoor engine. Yeah, the game that ended up coming out on Xbox had "outdoor levels", if you consider being trapped by walls you can't get outside of, with a skybox as a ceiling, as being outdoors. The original Halo game had terrain with rolling hills, and looked beautiful (for the time). Just look up the E3 2000 video of Halo. That's the game we wanted, and we never ever got it. Microsoft ruined everything, as per usual. Halopedia has a good high resolution version of the E3 2000 video of the original Halo.

I mean, DNF wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t bad either, it was okay. The restoration project isn’t a bad effort but it just seems unnecessary to spend all this time trying to polish an unfinished game.

Much props to the Restoration Team. I played the 2001 Leak as soon as I discovered its existence. And my only reaction was, “Wow I severely underrated the actual 2011 Duke Forever, that was way better.” The 2001 build may have had greater ambitions, but this leak is (obviously) far from finished or polished, and that’s even on the Windows XP machine it was meant to run on, let alone operating systems that didn’t exist until 15 years later. Crashes, bugs, etc. all for a game that is very dated. Like you said, even when it finishes (eventually) thanks to those dedicated souls working for free to make a dream happen, it’s like, do we really even care? A game from 2001 is just decades behind all the advancements made in shooters, and that era in particular just didn’t age well, at least graphically, perhaps mechanically too. 

You’re honestly better off just playing the Duke 3D mod “Duke Nukem Forever 2013” in a lot of ways.

I’ve always been a defender of the actual Duke Forever. It was never a bad game, though not a great game either. It was more a victim of unrealistically high expectations built up over years of trailers that sold more than what 3D Realms could actually deliver. But it has all the humor and style of Duke, and the puzzles and mini-size sections made for unique level design at times. I’d rather play a finished, but average Duke game with 2011 graphics than a highly ambitious but unfinished mess of a Duke game with primitive 2001 graphics.

Minor nitpick: Duke was already a celebrity at least as early as the beginning of Duke Nukem II, as he is seen shilling his book on (presumably) Oprah during the intro of that game. Also, there are numerous references to him being very famous throughout the course of Duke 3D including the pinball game, his own chain of burger restaurants etc.

To be honest, casting Gianni is beyond the best case scenario since he sounds the most like Jon, which is something other series fail to do on the regular (Sega being an exceptionally straightforward example)

Red Faction 1 did glass we could shoot out before HL2.

I really appreciate everything that the gaming & modding community have been doing to save & upgrade beloved game's & trying to bring out their true potential.

The rain effects on the screen could be explained by it just hitting Dukes glasses since the beefcake was born in them and sleep in them, I bet if you take them off him he would go blind cause the eyes wouldnt be used to normal lighting

Am I the only one who liked the Duke Nukem Forever that we got? It wasnt the best game but it was still fun and kinda funny at times

This whole situation still boggles my mind because, what leaked was actually really good, like this would've been a rock solid early 2000's FPS. And they threw it all away because anything that didnt basically top the release of Doom wasnt enough. And this isnt even the most complete build, apparently what leaked was only like half of what was done.

Duke Nukem needs to come back.

Listen the key to bringing back is you can leave the character almost the exact same, just make him loyal to one woman, in a polyamorous way

The new voice doesn't have St. John's energy. Even heard moments he broke character and the impression disappeared for a sec. We shouldn't complain since it's free and we can't get St. John for this, but it does feel... wrong.
Will feel even more wrong when we get Cena taking up the role.

I feel like for the dark casino levels they could just take a page from John wick and just use neon lights instead

I bought 3d on steam for 2 quid the other day did 3 levels and probably won't play it again for a other 20 years 10/10 money well spent

We really need another Duke game i think it's time for the younger generation to experience what us as the older generation did when we were kids.

Ironic how everyone is trying to restore this 2001 version of the game, but if it had been officially released back then people in 2023 would be asking for a Remake instead.
