A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SYSTEMS ANALYST

What does a day in the life of a system analyst look like? I am often asked what a systems analyst does. An I.T. Systems Analyst plays an important role within the information technology department. Often the system analyst is involved in projects to identify and rollout new technology solutions – crossing the boundary to work with other departments and be the main point of contact between the departments.

Systems analysts analyze how well software, hardware and the wider IT system fit the business needs of their employer or of a client (if they are working in a consultant role). The system analyst writes requirements and specifications for new systems and may also help implement them and monitor their effectiveness. The systems analyst may also maintain and administer the new system once it goes into production.

Computer systems analysts help companies use computer technology more efficiently. They incorporate new technology into current systems after doing cost-benefit analyses to determine whether it is financially sound and will serve the entity well.
