GrapheneOS: first impressions, stumbling blocks, and opinions

Is it ok to acquire Pixel from Google Store or Amazon? I'm thinking they have your info tied your phone (serial number, IMEI, etc).

I’m impressed the phone connects to the cell towers using 5G. I’m disappointed that the app store is not preloaded. I wonder if the phone camera works.

the way Google play store works is it keeps up with which apps you have purchased if any. buying paid apps outside of that you would have to buy them again

Isn't it obvious that every other Os will require that you create their account? From windows to apple, android and others?

Smartphones seem like such a scam honestly. I damaged the screen on my last phone, the repair would cost more then getting a new one, so I just got a new one. I decided to run a linux server on it but the whole process was made super difficult by the manufacturer. These people really want to make it as difficult as possible to fix or repurpose your device. When I hear one of these phone manufacturers talking about sustainability, I want to punch something.

Sometimes you need to close and reopened the aurora store to make it work. I have that kind of issue with waydroid. Sometimes apps can't installed : like Session, and magic earth

Who says alternative app stores will be better - Google is big and has more tools and resources to check out apps. Google Play may be better. Who knows.

GraphineOS is great if you just want to browse the internet and make phone calls and texting. But it removes a lot of the convivences of a regular phone. I tried it and it was dumbed down to much.

To me its useless because you still go back to Google apps. If you're serius about cutting off from google, then you need to use nothing from google..

Well that being sandboxed Google Store I will be quite happy... I need some apps from Google Store; but them beeing sandboxed I think I will install GrapheneOS today.

Lol. So after all that you end up using a Google account anyway. I gave up custom ROMs years ago. Just a gimmick and waste of time. To use proper software like Google maps, you should just use their tools.

Bought a Pixel 5, guess I'll give this a shot considering Android updates are EOL soon for this device. Only caveats is Google Pay and possibly banking apps may stop working.

I am hearing a lot of negative reviews on pixel 7/7a like over heating, network connectivity, battery drain issues etc. Have you faced such issues with GOS?

Technically the burner account would work, however there is 1 MAJOR key to consider... The phone w 'privacy' could still be linked to you if it's nearby another 'known' device. (e.g. any other normally setup phone).

Yes actually, an aluminum case can slow down 5g. Smooths out the waveforms similar to a capacitor.
