Every year or two since Spotify launched in 2008 the pay per stream rate has gone down (From about $0.008 in 2008 to about $0.003 in 2023).  Despite Creators pleading for an increase in the pay-per-stream rate, Spotify has simply ignored Creators, claiming they (Spotify) are losing money.  Now here we are heading in to 2024 and not only are Creators NOT getting a rate rise, but on the contrary Spotify is telling 80% of the Creators on their platform.....WE ARE NOT GOING TO PAY YOU ANYTHING!!!  Yes, 80% of Creators on Spotify do less than 50 streams per month.  Just imagine if a Distributor were ever to tell Creators "If you sell less than 1000 vinyl records, CDs or Digital downloads, WE ARE NOT GOING TO PAY YOU!!!!

This is the literal reason we should just abandon online streaming value and replace it with actual physical recording copies again that we buy in stores and play on record players, but this time they are high tech obviously it’s a modern, but new revalued way to the Artists accessibility so we still don’t need labels to distribute these for us. We could do it ourselves and sell album copies. I don’t know bro I think the value system now is fucked up. Back in the day it seemed so much easier to make money on music but without going through a record label, which was different back in the day it’s like a double standard, so it was hard to succeed without one back then.. but if we just made it to where we could succeed without it now and sell records in record stores again while maybe they (the stores) workout percentage deals for their market hosting ‘said artist’s’ album.. shit could be so different and this career could actually be a paying job for us

Is there anything that independent artists are doing to organize against the kind of move that Spotify is making?

I ask this because over the past week, I have heard a lot about the horrendous thing that Spotify is doing —- but precious little (i.e. nothing) about what to do about this.

That is why I ask if there is any way that independent artists are organizing against this.
