it has to be considered that windows drivers are proprietary and made exclusively for it, whereas linux has its drivers made or integrated into the kernel by the community

My setup is:

i3-6098p
1050ti 4GB
8GB DDR4 2666 Mhz
H110-m MB

I hate the amount of stutters I get when playing on windows, will try linux as even smooth 30fps is more than enough for me as I would be playing mostly RPG and Forza. Will add my review once I play on linux.

Excellent video. I would like to see this video done again with the current updates made to both windows , Linux (Proton, Lutris ...). I must say the numbers are very close even if windows edges out overall its a major win for the community. Please make more videos as your channel has very good quality videos.

What surprises me the most about this is that on the linux side, the CPU usage is considerably lower, with only a minor performance hit. On a desktop that doesn't really mean much, but for a laptop, it seems like it would translate to longer batter life.

radeon x1900 xtx, intel core i7 980X, windows xp or linux mandriva 2007, proton is an emulator for directx, but linux systems support open gl 3.0 since 2007, therefore the emulator is not needed for computer games if producers modify files in computer games, but producers since 2005 have made updates to computer game installers to install computer games on linux systems, but installers for linux are not publicly available

i'm running dual boot on my system (bare metal on each OS) but for some reason the difference in fps is huge in mine compared to this video.

is it because of my distro of choice or something else? i'm using Fedora GNOME

if i can find out how to close the gap of the performances in both OSes, i would stop using Windows altogether because most games that i play are on Steam anyway.

For something that doesn't get pumped millions into from microsoft and all other big tech's the performance nowadays on Linux is just stunning. I remember times when you had near to 0 chance to get a somewhat recent gpu running because nobody had drivers for it. You can compile em yourself sure, if you can tho lol. That's really nice to see it's becoming more and more of an alternative! Thanks for the vid man! Much appreciated!!

Performance higher than with the Windows 11 operating system (OS) was shown by various Linux distributions of fresh builds, July 8 reports the American news portal about open projects and the world of Linux OS Phoronix. Phoronix conducted a total of 103 different performance tests on a computer with an Intel Core i9-12900K (Alder Lake) processor, an ASUS ROG Strix Z690-E Gaming WiFi motherboard, 32GB (two 16GB modules) of DDR5-6000 RAM, 500 GB WD Black SN850 SSD and AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card. In addition to Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with 5.18 kernel, Intel Clear Linux build 36850 participated in the test. In 53.4% of cases, Clear Linux, optimized specifically for Intel systems, showed the best result, in second place Ubuntu 22.04 - 18.4% of wins in tests and only in third place is Windows 11 Pro - 15.5% of wins.

When working with Windows, there are jambs. For example, on the first day of installing licensed Windows 10, the start button stopped working, the “Settings” section and other interface elements did not start, and on the first day of installing licensed Windows 11, my admin rights changed to normal user rights, due to for which I could not install the software, that is, there was only one user on the computer without administrator rights.

Operating systems based on the Linux kernel are now the most popular in the world. Recently, they have pushed the rest of the OS and this trend continues.

From June 2021 to June 2022, the following operating systems were used when surfing the web:

1. Android - 44.17%
2. Windows - 28.96%
3. iOS - 17.46%
4. MacOS - 5.56%
5. Unknown - 1.92%
6. Linux - 0.92%

This statistic includes desktops, tablets, mobile phones and consoles. Android is based on the Linux kernel. Thus, in total, 45.09% of the OS is used when surfing the web on the Linux kernel. iOS and MacOS are Unix-like operating systems. The latter account for 68.11% of the operating systems that are used for Internet surfing.

If you look at the data only for desktop computers, we get the following picture:

1. Windows - 76.31%
2. MacOS - 14.66%
3. Unknown - 4.88%
4. Linux - 2.43%
5. Chrome OS - 1.72%
6. FreeBSD - 0.01%

Chrome OS is based on the Linux kernel. FreeBSD is a free UNIX operating system.

Linux has completely dominated the supercomputing space since 2017, with all 500 of the most powerful supercomputers in the world running a Linux distribution.

According to W3Cook, Linux powers the servers that run 96.5 percent of the world's first million domains (as ranked by Alexa). W3Techs goes even further on this list and claims that Linux powers about 70 percent of the first 10 million Alexa domains. Windows controls the remaining 30 percent.

The public cloud, which is closely related to the aforementioned web servers, is another area in which Linux is well ahead of the pack. Given the fragmented nature of space, it's nearly impossible to get accurate statistics. However, given that Amazon EC2 controls almost half of the market, this is a good sign for the entire sector. In Amazon EC2, standard Linux (along with various distributions) controls 92% of the market. Again, Windows is responsible for the other eight percent.

The share of Linux-solutions in the market of embedded systems has reached 50%. In second place with a share of 24% are embedded systems based on their own internal developments. The share of Windows is 19%.

Linux is popular with various state and municipal structures in Brazil, India, China, Spain, Portugal, France and Germany.

Thus, Linux does not dominate only the PC area. But this situation may change in the near future.

China announced on July 1, 2022, an open platform to accelerate the development of its own operating system for desktop computers due to strained relations with the United States. Kylinsoft, a subsidiary of state-owned China Electronics Corp, joined forces with more than 10 Chinese companies last week, including the National Industrial Information Security Research Center. They are creating an openKylin community where developers will share code related to the Kylin OS. Kylin was originally developed by the People's Liberation Army's National University of Defense Technology. It was licensed for commercial use in 2014. Kylin is based on Linux and is compatible with the largest number of processors, including HiSilicon, Loongson, Sunway, Hygon and FeiTeng Huawei Technologies Co.

China is a pretty big market. And on it, Windows is planning to replace the Linux-based OS. In addition, China may start exporting its OS along with its hardware.

Also, due to the departure of Microsoft in Russia, they will begin to switch from Windows to Russian operating systems. Prior to this, Russian operating systems were most often installed on computers of government agencies, state corporations and network companies.

And with the growing popularity of Linux under it, software will begin to be written more often.

I know how to mount a pc from zero but im totally newbie about Linux, it is easy to install and configurate? I have a i5 9600kf + RX480 4gb (its my backup gpu, i needed to sell my rtx 2070) so i need every bit of performance gain. Why you call it proton?
