Im sorry but your not gonna convience me $500+ for a pc to emulate games that will have imput lag is better than just buying a nes or snes for $80 and the used games for $20-$80. I understand you wanna play earthbound and yea i wouldnt pay the prices for it but atleast try a different game 😂

Emulation isn’t theft and piracy is also not theft. If you lose access to your account on a store front congrats you now no longer own your entire library. You have a license to play games, not ownership. Piracy is ownership

Finding fightcade was one of the biggest catalysts for me getting into the fgc, was able to play games I had bought previously on console or some other form on my pc and with better netcode (or at least a larger population of players)

Save states alone is a big reason to use emulation not to mention higher internal resolutions, storage convenience, organization, and much more.

I would emulate more and I have emulated lots of games to play them in the best but my biggest thing is I hate sitting at my computer lmao if I could play a switch version or OG hardware I will 99% of the time. But I’m emulating ff7 on one of those retro gaming handhelds and it makes me so glad to be alive

If it werent for emulation i probably would not be a gamer as i could not afford or convince my parents to purchase any as a child/teenager. For me it all started with the GBA emulator on pc and have never looked back

companies and their greed has made it impossible to play older titles legit.
Emulation will always exist in one form or another.

Not legal advice but for me a game not being available for a modern console or on PC I just consider it abandonware. If the company has no way of making money off the game then they've abandoned it and I have no moral problem emulating it. I also don't really have any problem if the game is old and released rereleased for a console I don't have or overpriced, then they're just ripping you off. The PS3 emulator is also great for playing Demon's Souls and there's also a way to connect to online with the emulator and play with people.

Emulators also have a fast forward button which is great for games like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh where you need to move around fast or skip the cpu thinking which was extremely slow in Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's games for the DS.

And lastly I'll mention that the emulation community has all these roms so when I modded my 3DS (after the store was shut down) I could download DS and 3DS games and play them on original hardware perfectly still. There's even a home-brew 'store' where you can download any 3DS game for free. Since the official store is shut down there's no way to play these games legit anymore so I have no problem downloading what I want. I still spent money until the store was shut down but now it's all abandonware.

The tiny imperfections are glaringly noticeable to me and i can't really enjoy emulation. I want to play twilight princess but emulation is microstutter hell. Nerds can't do anything right.

I have no problem with emulating games. No no no, my problem is playing them on pc, where all of the best emulation is. Playing pc games just doesn't FEEL the same as playing them on console, to the point where, for example, I prefer playing minecraft 3ds to java edition.

Make sure you search for version 1.7 of PCSX2 if you want to play PS2.
1.7 is way easier to use compared to 1.6 and it automatically configure games to make them run as intended.

"Emulation provides a better experience." Welcome to software made because it is wanted instead of for "profit." You will find it's also true for many game releases, the old Gabe quote. "To defeat piracy, you need to offer a better experience than the pirate."
"Fully Open Source Software" is made to benefit the user. That's the name for anyone who wants to get that "good software" experience elsewhere in life

Bro i dont know why you kept exaggerating how emulation is hard and you need to be an expert to solve all the issues , while in truth theres rarely any issues and even if there is anyone can solve them in couple of minutes , i went in emulation and i wasnt an expert at anything by any means and i played different ps1 and 2 games without any issues even the controllers are set in a single button push in these emulators.
Ps: im using psx emulators

There's a tacit consent on old consoles/games. They won't care much as long as you don't try to get money from roms, don't fuck around with their current games and make it "super" public.

That's why dolphin devs were kinda dumb to try and put their software on steam. No reason but to try and get the wrong people mad when it's already super easy to get dolphin.

Gamecube Era and earlier work great, but past that emulaton is pretty bad. Xenia and Rpcs3 both have frequent crashing and bugs, xenia can barely run and rpcs3 crashes every 10 minutes. I have been emulating for a long time and have never used retroarch because it simply never worked, like at all. The standalone emulators usually worked better and were better customizable.

no qualms about the legality of emulation whatsoever, and sometimes its a great option when original hardware is just to much of a hassle for someone to bother with. however whenever i have the choice i will go with the original hardware, or in certain instances an HD port if one is available. I just prefer the stability and lack of visual bugs/glitches etc. that often come with emulation

at this point the proper way of doing the whole preserving old games is just re-relasing them in pc, but that makes less money than reselling mario world 5 times than just 1

The whole "you have to own the game to emulate it" thing is such bull shit. What does "owning" it even mean? The original version or do any of the seven ports/remakes count too? What if I used to own it when I started using the emulator but don't anymore? Can the emulator BECOME illegal over time? What if I own a broken copy of the game? Can I break a Smash Bros Melee disc into a bunch of pieces and hand it out to all my friends so they all can emulate too?

you only need to spend two hundred for perfect hardware emulation not "hundreds"...

but you do know what is hundreds? the amount of hours wasted setting up settings for each individual game and still have it run like absolute fucking SHIT

When he brought up the brokenness that can sometimes occur, it reminded me of how I have all the default settings for all my emulators and PC games backed up to a folder on my Google Drive so if I need to revert back to the default and there's no easy way to do it in software, I can just redownload my backup and replace the files with my Google Drive backups and everything's fixed.

The ability to just download emulators from Google Play is a big reason I refuse to buy anything other than Android when it's time for a new phone. With Android, you have a retro gaming powerhouse in your pocket.

It was fairly recently that I realized there's a lot of people out there that are reluctant to emulate games or learn more about it. A shocking revelation to me, a guy who was first exposed to it at a young age. I always took for granted everyone was doing it, but turns out a shit to of people even have trouble setting up a PS1 emulator or managing a rom folder. And that's exactly why companies like Nintendo can come along and charge whatever they want for what's essentially a glorified rom file with a pretty interface.

If companies want to stop emulation, they gotta do more than just dump a ROM. M2's shmup releases are basically the perfect example of what you gotta do.

Gaming companies: You need to play the game on the original overpriced cartridge, on the original barely-functioning console, and a TV that's older than you are, or we'll sue you for an egregious amount of money 💰

I'm mainly a console gamer but i got in to emulation a few weeks ago and it's amazing. I haven't got a gaming laptop but all the old games work great on 8 gig of ram. Playing games like Streets Of Rage II takes me back to being a kid. I love it. Yeah, it's a pain getting everything set up in Launchbox and getting used to how cores work and which emulators work best with each platform etc and i've watched a lot of tutorials. Once you get used to it and have it all set up, it's awesome. I've always knew emulation exsists but i didn't know it was to this scale and how many people do it. It might be a big ask but is there any chance of a game list for the games you used in the video?.

!! IMPORTANT !!

Downloading RPCS3 and running a custom script can eliminate the need for a ps1/ps2/ps3 bios for any emulator. Search for the firmware bios claimer and put it in your RPCS3 directory. Run script, extract, and Voila! You have a couple bioses which work for ps2 and ps1.

For what it's worth, even though I still don't particularly care, I can at least understand an argument against emulations for games that have been put back in print in some form.

I.E. if I want to play Pokémon Stadium, and it's now on Virtual Console, you can at least feasibly make an argument that emulation is participating in circumvention. I'd still generally rather people play the game than not play it given the choice, but it at least makes sense.

For instance, if there is a rerelease, I'll usually buy it and then emulate it anyway if emulation is just the better experience for me. Assuming that I didn't already have an original copy.

I understand what anti-piracy people are saying, really I do, but when you put things in perspective, piracy is incredibly small compared to legitimate markets, especially for games, which aren't exactly specialty software. Any perceived problems with piracy would be much better addressed by making changes in the legitimate market first, as opposed to wasting all this time trying to deal with something maybe... I don't know 10% of your audience engages in regularly? If even that.
