How worried are you about your age holding you back? Did this video help clarify anything for you?

I'm 25 years old and I'm already thinking about that... Well, it seems that this is the only option I have right now, and the fact that to start at my age is not even considered too late is uplifting, so I guess I should really try it

I was born in the 80s have been landing a series of well-paid cryptography roles. I spent the 2010s learning low level languages and cryptography/machine learning mathematics and how to compute them. The answer - DEFINITELY, they want people who can do the job above all else. If you specialize in a rare, HARD skill especially (like ML, cryptography, scientific computing, etc.) you're likely to quickly be into getting half a million.

Lol, what a trivial question. You could have been a stay at home dad for 20 years, at 55 years old, and if you started coding you'd STILL find jobs very easily, and after a couple years you'd get paid very well in most cases: there's lots of demand for this (I'm not kidding by the way).
I learned at 33, began at 34, and that was the best decision of my life. I have a master's degree from a business school in France, and had a series of very unfulfilling jobs before that, and boy am I glad I did it.
Truth is, you could easily become one at 40-45 years old, retire at 70+, and have a very successful career: there's tons of examples like those.
So, can you become a programmer after 30? Very, VERY much so, without any problems whatsoever, and if you invest yourself thoroughly, you'll have a very stable professional situation in a matter of years: that's how in demand the job is.

At 34 I have now started learning programming to switch careers. I wish I had realized this before I also had a small child, but things just didn't click in my head like that then even though I checked some programming courses and did a bit of Android programming. Now I feel an urge and a desire to learn Python.

I waited till 40 now 42 and I was top 5 student in class and found it generally pretty easy to learn.
No I am not smart I am average, difference is folks my age an older are much wiser, and intelligent than folks in their 20's. Data shows college grads now are dumber than 8th graders in 1950's who were just average students back then.

So what do companies find out, well they find older folks have different social constructs than youth, older gen has strong work ethic and drive.

So in the end you have more opportunities if you know how to market yourself and you don't work like the youngsters matching them but work like your generation learned to. Doing that you'll find raises faster and more often along with promotions than anyone around you.
I have record for promotions and wage increases at 3 companies, not for being smart or socially kewl, I am not. I just work hard and do my best for real

I'm in my late 30s and working full-time as a call-centre agent which people often refer to as low-level unskilled job, earning low salary. I earn $1,500 a fortnight which is minimum wage. I really want to get out of this rut. I cant decide between IT or Accounting. But then on a second thought, I'm scared to invest more money on education. My highest qualification was a High School certificate, but I had attempted uni courses in the past, and dropped out of it, incurring a student loan of $25,000+ that I need to pay off. When I was young, I had high level of social anxiety. But I think I'm grown out from it, by working. Im not sure whether I should be like the older generation where they work any low-skilled jobs and saved extra hard, or invest in education to better my future. But by the time I finish a bachelor degree , I'd be in my 40s! What should I do?
