Gran Prix Legends is another really old sim (late 90's) that is also very alive due to modders as well.
Kinda sad that we have computers that are thousand times more powerful than when these games launched and we don't have anything that comes even close to the simulation these old games had.

Dirt wasn't out in 2004...

Casual gamers like arcade physics and graphics that are average. Serious gamers like sim physics, beautiful graphics and realistic sound design for immersion.

The reason that RBR feels so much better than pretty much every other game out there is down to the involvement of Richard Burns, himself. He was heavily involved with the game's production, and helped them fine tune the game's physics every step of the way. The PS2/Xbox only had so much CPU power, so the OG game was limited to how many physics calculations it could do per second (hence why it can feel a little floaty over bumpy surfaces in the original, un-modded game).

I never got the hype of this game, cars handle weirdly af, you can get a 150bhp fwd car and spin it after start just by decking the pedal which is pure idiocy and unrealistic, ffb isnt the greatest, sounds are shite, co driver is dated... Stages are great, but otherwise i totally dont get why yall jack off so much to this game.

Well, yes new modded RBR is good but that is literally almost 340 GB plugin ,and not everyone can have enough space. And not many people have original version of the game.

"Standard" pacenotes? That's variable enough depending on the driver's preference that I'm honestly surprised the format isn't adjustable in the modern games like the timings are. Richard Burns really did use descriptive pacenotes instead of numeric, for example.

you forgot to mention an important part of the simulation in racing games... brakes and tire temperatures... it's a world of difference between other rally titles and RBR.

I'm going to buy this for the PS2 but play it on my PS3 with backwards compatibility. Hopefully it will give me wide-screen option. I loved Colin McRae Rally on the PS2 and Xbox 360. And Dirt Rally was also quite enjoyable.

Is there anyway we can update the graphics? I do 3d game design and would love to know if this could be done or if i could help

as someone with a shitter pc, realistic simulator games with lower end graphics are lovely for me so thank you for this video

Not that you in the video say this but people shouldn't call a game the best if it becomes that with mods, nor that they love a game that they can't enjoy vanilla.

I prefer it to Dirt Rally even unmodded. I couldn't care less about the lack of content - the stages that are in there are utterly fantastic and memorable. Revisiting some of the corners is like meeting an old friend. All the memories of the time I spent mastering them resurfacing.

Rallisport challenge 2 is the best original xbox racing title hands down. if anyone has an og xbox give it a try. Extremely underrated.
