Thank you for the informative video. Hoping for more videos like this. As well as how about on commuter bikes and MTBs.
ОтветитьAlso learn how to look over your shoulder without accidentally turning. And look over your shoulders regularly. Before you turn, before you change lanes, before you move laterally to avoid obstacles if you can, and ideally also before you signal.
ОтветитьAvoid patches of loose gravel on junctions and bends; especially if braking.
ОтветитьFront lights on daylight are essential too. I guarantee you that if you have a collision with a vehicle the driver will otherwise tell you that they didn't see you. Similarly wearing black clothing whilst cycling is asking not to be seen.
ОтветитьGood advice but after 35 years of riding and having competed for 25 years of those the most important investment ive made recently is to buy a pair of Trieye glasses. There is nothing more liberating as a road user to finally have a 180 degree view of exactly whats happening behind me.without a blindspot. The garmins irridates other rider and me and i still feel like a sitting duck. Its the most important cycling peace of equipment I can recommend to any cyclist. Plus they top quality, better styled than many top styles ive worn in the past and a big advantage during competitive riding. More importantly it keep you sooooo much saver. As the editor advises Safety before vanity
ОтветитьI have been cycling for 50 years, yet there were a few new points I learned.
ОтветитьRegarding point 5 about not surging on hills. I live in Switzerland and pretty much every group ride consists of going easy on flat ground (150W) and hard on climbs (250W to 400W). I get dropped on every hill lasting longer than 2-3 minutes and get bored on flat terrain.
Ответитьwhen cornering, avoid getting your body over the centerline. it is not just your tires on the road that need to remain in your lane, but your whole body.
i see the same issue with motorbikes
Nice bike.
ОтветитьI am a beginner i can't able to rotate the handle bar of cycle while turning because i am putting high force on handle bar what should i do for smooth steering??
Thanks in advance..
Two more tips from me as a long time cyclist:
-Always reckon with the stupidity of others.
-Drive as if you were invisible. But also make yourself as visible as possible. This point is more like a thought in your head. If people don't want to see you, they don't see you. No matter, how visible you are.
Hold on that Garmin light is 150 quid, and your recommending!!
ОтветитьOne important tip for riding the bike with one hand is to know which brake is for the front wheels and which is for the rear. Always leave the hand for the rear brakes on the bicycle. If you need to stop suddenly with only one hand (maybe because you’re holding a drinking bottle with the other) you won’t fall over. If you brake with only the front wheel there’s a big risk of tumbling over your bike forwards. Even as an experienced Dutch bicycle user I can say that I speak from experience…
ОтветитьI just forwarded this video to my son who wants to start riding to work. He is not living in my state (USA) and though I’m an experienced cyclist, I haven’t had a ride with him in over 18 years. I very much appreciate being able to share these sound advice videos with him to ease my worries.
ОтветитьA nm click torque wrench & hex bits (look up torque specs for your bike in the owners manual, print or PDF, then every 250 mi or so, check the tightness of all the essential bolts. Under tightened bolts can come lose & cause wear of the bracket, and over tightening can stretch the bolt causing it to snap under loads. Also on a carbon bike, a little over-tight can crack the frame or other parts, so knowing the torque spec for the bolt & using a torque wrench essential to prevent damaging your carbon bike while maintaining it!
ОтветитьIt looks like you have a cycliq bike camera on the front. Am I correct and how do you like it? What type of glasses are your wearing? Nice Video.
ОтветитьGreat video tristan as Always very useful well explained👍🏻🚴🏼
Ответитьi don’t have the type of ur handle
ОтветитьTop
ОтветитьWho the heck needs these overpriced gels when you can get a bottle of sugar water for a couple of cents.
ОтветитьBeginner here; thank you for this comprehensive list! Very helpful
ОтветитьI still learning as a newbie though i be 67 yet would never be able to achieve what my uncle Professor Bruce Morgan did at age of 7 and there after many many miles, Olympic World Wide with a few minimum $100,000 USA top of the 1%Elites over the top on the professionals That is untill one Late afternoon, at the blind eye sighting begining of the setting sun for our evening, Just on a casual ride I suppose a 250 mile roundabout lesuire was hit and run? by a automotive driver may not have notice him at all being sun blinded , He survived but unfortunately ended His Life self taught,of many awesome unique achievements with shattered Hips, Pelvis, femer crushed. Anyhoo , just a weired introduction to thank you for your Candor, Upfront Pro info with Simple DIrective and articulated presentation ti have never really considered what i assumed been biking NOTHING even a sweat drop from you all brows to condsider not to be granted to see the next sun rises or settings for the night.
Appreciate your info!
The fact that u guys are using the BMC bikes it makes me smile throughout the video hehe
ОтветитьWhat microphone are you using? The sound quality during biking is excellent
Ответитьpedal
ОтветитьI love your tail light
ОтветитьWhile I generally prefer to cycle with Constantinople power as you suggest, and I think it is the way to optimize for duration, I do think for optimizing for average speed it is good to use more power uphill..
ОтветитьHow much alcohol do you recommend for beginners?
ОтветитьI got headlights that I actually wear on my head. So mamy drivers spastically rush up to the stop sign, exceeding the white line. Same thing keeps happening at the exit/entrance of strip malls. So I have my headlamp on flashing red lights. I'm also armed with front & rear lights on my bike, also flashing.
ОтветитьI never thought about the need to fuel simply to power your brain, and make good decisions on the road. Never thought about that before.
ОтветитьI fractured my arm bone going downhill on wet road and taking a turn, the tire slipped and I landed on my hands, I am really scared if the method you described is gonna work, I am going super slow around corners on wet roads 😂😢! I have developed a fear now!
ОтветитьOne point of safety I believe you missed is “Gloves” I’m a firm believer in wearing them, if you take a fall the first thing you do is put your hands out, as a guitar player I’m always trying to protect my hands from falling or getting cut or scraping them, it also helps from getting sweat all over the bars and stuff.
ОтветитьDon’t ride up behind people you don’t know a sit on their f&$king wheel 🤗
Class dismissed
Want to be seen get an Exposure Blaze
ОтветитьRearlight with radar is really helpful
ОтветитьYou can get actual brake lights and signals and headlights with their own battery pack as a kit to install on your bike.. if you're concerned about the negligible extra weight and wind resistance maybe just train harder ya wuss, lol. Nah seriously though it's like maybe an extra kilo, less if you sacrifice some battery life and charge before each ride. that's nothing for what it offers.
Nobody in a car besides a cop or a cyclist knows what the hand signals mean or even notices them as signals but they do understand lights and they're a lot more noticeable than some dude presumably waving off a fly. Plus if you hit a pothole one handed and you're not awesome at bikes you're going down.
Any recommendations for how to fit a bike on my own? I don't actually have a bike shop in my town, or the next town over. I'm on my own here.
ОтветитьBeginner cyclists do NOT need to fuel every half hour, not even intermediates, only the very advanced. Maybe every hour Amy cycling adventures is a good cyclist, she says every hour, you’re way above her level I don’t know why you would advise beginners to eat every half hour that’s misleading and very expensive
But I did get some tips on the second video thanks that 👍
lesson learn this why Kids Skoild grow up in A nike town Like UCDavis fir me it was bikes going to school it come s handy In the big university's bikes are good to have
ОтветитьICDavis Is Big Bike town Community very Strict on safty helmet laws have change in UCDavis
ОтветитьOne of the main skills I would add is body positioning. There's nothing worse than having the bike fishtailing at speed especially on a descent.
Ответитьhah! baby wipes, I use them for everything, they're amazing. I haven't tried them on a chain yet though.
Ответитьthe safest tip I can give any cyclist as a motorist is stick to the side of the road . Stick to the laws.
ОтветитьMy favourite tail light is the balls shaped one🗿
ОтветитьPlease add one more:
Don't root your bum to the seat, it should stay floating on the seat.....Be seated only when taking a rest on the ride.
I literally surge up every single hill. Ty for these tips I've been cycling near daily for 6 months straight now and I still have alot to learn
Ответитьif you want to interest cyclists in wearing helmets tell them it's aero
