FAQ: Which books were burnt? 📚
On 10 May 1933, members of the Nazi German Student Union and their professors burnt books as part of a nationwide action “against the un-German spirit”.
The books burnt were viewed as being subversive or as representing ideologies opposed to Nazism. For example, works by Jewish authors and communists like Karl Marx, as well as those by Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Heinrich Mann and Kurt Tucholsky.
Books from the ransacked Institute of Sexology were also burnt. Led by Magnus Hirschfeld, the Institute published works on LGBTQ topics and transsexualism.
Berlin is one of my top 5 cities in the world. I was blown away with this particular tribute to history because it’s so subtle. Most of the historical references are deliberately bland to make you ask “what’s this for?” - they blend history with art to make something truly moving.
ОтветитьThere is almost no single greater sin than destroying knowledge. Whether perceived as good or bad, that knowledge is a part of humanity. Once you lose that knowledge, you give rebirth to what led to that knowledge.
ОтветитьYou could have added anything else to show how terrible they are and you chose communist books💀💀💀
ОтветитьI like her ❤😍
Ответить"Jewish, Communist and LIBERAL"... You can replace 'liberal' with "history, science and philosophy'... 🤦
ОтветитьThese neo Nazis in the comment section make me sick 🤢
I swear to god, some humans are just devolving 😥
You live in Berlin? We could meet ☺️
ОтветитьThis comment section is just amazing, if you look you can see people justifying book burnings, and people saying we should delete these comments even though it's the same as book burning essentially.
Tl;Dr if there are words you don't like, just ignore it, don't get rid of it, you might not like that information but others will.
They burned Communist and Liberalism supporting books? But my school said Nazis were the bad guys? 🤥
ОтветитьThank you for sharing
ОтветитьA smart man knows he should't read this comment section when he hears what's the topic about. I can already guess what the comments would be about without reading them, and in these situations it's better not to waste your energy on this kind of negativity.
Sending much love and light towards everyone reading this and wishing you all a blessed life! 🙏🏻 ♥
So they burnt books we champion today
ОтветитьTo those who agree with the concept of burning books, remember
Burning books, tearing down statues and more is erasing history... Without them people can forget
And if you forget history you are doomed to repeat it
Whether you are Neonazi or the destructive kind of liberal/leftist (just the destructive people to be crystal clear)
You could say that kind of people are the minority of your group, the percentage doesn't matter as it isn't zero
You are destroying physical knowledge of atrocities, if I had a time machine, I'd grab a copy of every book that was burnt and put them in a museum (the content of the book isn't as important as the history of them)
I'd want every KKK member hood intact, every disturbing book by the Nazis, every statue erected... I'd commission a replica of every statue built but sadly destroyed
This is meant to be a bipartisan post, I value preservation of as much of history as possible
weird how liberal books were burned by a liberal group... wow.
ОтветитьTo be the middle ground, nazis are bad, book burning is bad, but you also have to take into account the fact that they did burn communist books which isn’t a bad thing in it of itself
ОтветитьOK so the burnings on May 6th of 20k books was when the German student union burned magnus hirschfelds collection at the institute of sex research in Berlin. All of the books pertained to sex research, LGBT and Trans topics as hirschfeld had completed the first gender reassignment surgery and it's believed the person who underwent that was killed on may 6. Dolly Richter if I'm not mistaken.
Hirschfeld was exiled and found refuge in France where he died 2 years later of a heart attack.
The memorial here is for the may 10th burnings of any thing considered anti German at the square state opera. That was an estimated 25,000 books
They burned a lot more than just communist and liberal books, art and books by famous composer Felix mendolhssen were also burned.
Even if you don't agree with the subject matter of a book, there is no justification for mass book burning.
Those books were pro-degenerate. Look up how disgusting the Weimar Republic was and you’ll understand why so many Germans wanted to join with the group that promised to put an end to it
ОтветитьWe must Never Ever Forget! 😱😭☮️
ОтветитьWell the best way to cure communism is to burn their teachings.
ОтветитьGo on, describe what the books were
ОтветитьSadly we now have zionazis
ОтветитьShe is one gorgeous red head woman 👩
Ответитьcommunist Books? Yeah I don't care.
Ответитьwhat an absolute dumpster fire of a comments section
ОтветитьCreepy
ОтветитьThey burned the people. Ofc they would burn the books too... If you burn the history, you csn change the history... They did in their terms, kind of. But truth always finds its way out.
ОтветитьYeah all the comments supporting Nazis are bad, but I can’t get over how annoying looking this lady is
Ответитьi’m not in the business of arguing with neo-nazis but any so called “free speech advocates” in these comments might want to reflect on why they’re now pro book burning
Ответитьcomments didn't pass the vibe check. beautiful memorial art piece. thank you for sharing
Ответитьi have nothing to say about these comments… 💀
ngl, germany took an L during ww2
why do she look like the smart nerdy girl from a disney channel movie
ОтветитьThey weren’t liberal books lol
Ответитьif you’re like oh great we didn’t need those books by jewish authors, about lgbt topics, and various political books you are siding with the nazis views and if you can’t see what’s wrong with that I don’t think there’s saving you
ОтветитьThese burnings absolutely devastated the burgeoning fields of transgender and intersex healthcare and broader sexuality research as they burned all of the books and journals of the institut für sexualwissenschaft, some 20,000 journals, books, medical charts, and other research (approx the amount burned in the event discussed here.
How far back this set LGBTQA and intersex rights and medical care is incalculable, as given how ahead of its time the IFS was much of the research wasn’t recorded anywhere else and was completely lost to us - it was the queer equivalent of the loss of the Library of Alexandria.
These kids making jokes better realize that the way neo-nazi’s are made is it starts out with jokes, and slowly, before you know it, start to believe it all.
ОтветитьAnd eventually they'll start burning the Bible because it predicts a satanic one-world government ruling via a digital economy. See the short explanation in Revelation 13.
ОтветитьIt would be nice if Japan actually taught their history like Germany does
ОтветитьConsidering that mein kampf is banned now in the west.
:-double standards.
While I hate communism, I also hate Nazis and the amount of far right people here is insane!
ОтветитьShe's look like a library teacher who will scream at you when you accidentally fell
ОтветитьPeople should look up the farce of the Zundel Trial from canada and read the research of his defense team.
ОтветитьIt’s basically an ikea bookshelf I see why they walk past it
ОтветитьIndiana Jones and the last crusade, the book thief book burning scenes.
ОтветитьI remember when i ws young, suppressing books & opinions was supposed to be a right wing thing. Now it is the so-called left "cool & woke" trying to do it.
I feel it is immoral either way.
Don't look up what books they actually burned
ОтветитьBad ideas need to be countered with good ideas. The solution to communism is not to burn the communist books but to write books showing why communism is wrong.
ОтветитьSo what's changed, the woke political correctness movement pulls down statues, silences freedom of speech and terrorizes anyone who questions them.....but then again the nazi were also socialist, just national socialist rather than international socialists
ОтветитьMeanwhile today finding the Doctrines of Fascism by Giovanni Gentile is nearly impossible to find, unlike the Communist Manifesto that's in every bookstore.
Every side limits information.
Why they don't respect black people and Asian people? Its just a sham!
