Camera one big problem low light performance

This camera and the a6700 need to have a baby. They need one APS-C camera with dual card slots, an EVF, and a mechanical shutter.

The least they could do is make a removable accessory EVF for the FX30.

Videographers don't use EVF?? I use mine all the time.

Please how to check Shutter count for the FX30 ?

A crop sony with a EVF and the A7R5 rear screen will crush this. even without a evf its going to crush it with that rear screen

No mention of experience with low light with this camera? Was just curious on your opinion for this part of the camera.

many complain about the lack of the EVF but this camera is the direct competitor of the Bm6k and no one has ever complained about the lack of the EVF 😃

S5 mark 1 is still better, let alone mark 2.

No open gate raw output :( Could you imagine a Sony camera with open gate 6k output. Then you could use all that anamorphic glass thats hitting the market every couple days.

I love the electronic viewfinder on the A7S3. I use it more than the LCD. 🤜🤛

Which would you recommend between the Fx30 and Sigma FP?

I would like a fly fishing (and other onsite projects. All cameras take good photos today. The reviews are all the same. But what I do not know and cannot find out easily is what it is like to live with a camera. Doing a project (photographic or video) and then at the end of the video, a discsussion of the capabilities and limitations of the camera in actual use would really be helpful. Perhaps even dicsussing another camera that would have worked better for that project. Although this may not be possible as it could interfere with your relationships with some camera companies. It would also be entertaining to watch.

What? Who says videographers don't use an EVF and who the hell said we like that horrible flip out screen???? Speak for yourself, I hate the stupid flip out screen, it is blocked by the minijacks and when using a strap I can't see shit on the screen. Wish the FX3 had the A6400 screen, which obviously wouldn't make sense with that stupid grip they sell as combo. Proper filmmakers use an EVF, hobbyists use an LCD screen. This camera is nice for locked down shots and gimbal work.

I think this would be a great b-cam for my fx6 😅

Would love to see a followup on the Sony purpose-built lenses. This unit may force me to get off the schneid and finally move off my 720p video camera workflow that I've been threatening to do for - oh - a decade? LOL.

The full frame Canon EOS R5 can record 8K 60p and 4K 120p both without cropping, correct? So, why can't this camera do the same?

This Pertains to Both The Sony FX3 and FX30.
So both camera's are great i mostly use the Sony Fx30 and it does a great job, they are a couple things about it that i notice and i'm asking any one who owns the Sony Fx30 to help me here so we can get Sony to fix a couple of things about this camera that includes the Fx3 as well.


If we as customers and Sony Fx30 owners want something change calling Sony and requesting it does very little.


We need to bind together, because numbers motivates Sony then they are more likely to listen.
So if you would like to see these changes too follow me and maybe we can get it done.

the 2 things i would like to see changed and they can both be done in Firmware update.

#1 As of now you can only record 4k 120P internally using an expensive SD or CFexpress type A card.
Not all of us record internally and for many reasons, I myself Record to an External Recorder, (Ninja V+)

So the problem is you can't take advantage of 4K 120P recording externally, it will not let you do it.

How ever the Ninja V+ is capable of doing it i do it with my Fujifilm XT-4 Camera all the time.
for some reson Sony Will not allow you to record via HDMI to the Ninja V+ 4k 120P.


Why i ask? this is really silly because both the camera and the NInja V+ is very well capable of it.
The only thing i can come up with for a reason why is Sony wants to promote the sales of expensive SD and CFexpress type A cards, that would be the only thing i can think of.

Never the less we need to bug sony to come up with a Firmware update to change this. And it can very well be done, they can do a simple firmware update and fix this problem, wouldn't you all like to record 4K 120P to the Ninja V+ or an External Recorder that can handle it? Of course you would.. So we need to bind together and give them a little push to make this happen.

The Other issue is that you can not record Slog, to an external recorder unless you have the DHMI output set to Off (HDMI Only) this is really silly.

didn't you notice if you set the HDMI output set to On, you are limited to what you can record to the external recorder (Ninja V+) you have to turn HDMI output to off if you want to record 4k to the external recorder.

this is the other thing we need Sony to fix in a firmware update as well..
So people let me hear your thoughts on this, i'm sure you would like to see these changes made and so would I.

Thank you for the review, it is very helpful. I film with the a6600 now and I think the FX- 30 would be good for slow motion in 4k video as the a6600's slow motion is in HD only but they both capture in 6k video.? I don't know any other Sony that has slow motion in 4k at this price.

Thank you for this. You didn't mention the lack of ND filters. If the best image quality can only be obtained with 800/2500 ISO then you need some ND filters in your bag to compensate I guess!

here is something you all should know about the Sony Fx30 i have this camera and done some tests doing video's and found out unlike other Camera's such as canon or Fuji.
Just simply setting your shutter speed to 60 or 120 or 240 for the Sony Fx30, WILL NOT Avoid Flickering from lights, Like Banding from lights. you MUST use the (Anti-flicker Set) from the menu to set the shutter angle to the correct number to stop the banding,
I shot at 4K-30P 4K-60P and 4K-120P And had to use specific shutter angles that i found that stop the banding, here is a short list of what worked for me for preventing Banding from LED lights Systems..

Shutter Angles to prevent Light Flickering..

for 120P use shutter angle at 239.9
for 60P use shutter angle at 119.9
for 30P use shutter angle at 59.95


now how i found out the numebrs was just looking at my monitor and test recording specific numbers and that was what i found, but i probably doubled the value
that i needed, which wouldn't make a difference because it's all synced in the correct cycles that the lights flicker..

But these values here below might be the correct ones to use..
30P use shutter angle 29.97
60P use shutter angle 59.94
120P use shutter angle 119.9

Notice the shutter angles values are what the frame rates are, well 60P is not 59.94 but when recording to the Ninja i believe that's what it's writing the video's frame rate to..
So when you set your Sony to 60p the ninja is actually recording at 59.94 not 60P, i believe that the Sony does write the videos' frame rate at 60p not 59.94 when recording internally.
So there is a bit of a Difference there not much but enough to notice a slight banding..
Any way those numbers up there worked for me incase some one needs to know..

A great video as usual. You mention that now, Adobe Premiere has this gyro stabilization feature, as Catalyst Browse has, but I have not heard about it on Premiere. Could you please give us more detail about it? THanks!
