I Tried a BUDGET River Cruise and It Wasn't What I Expected

River Cruises allow you to bring alcohol, beverages, and food on board. I would bring beer, Kahlua and Irish Cream (using coffee as the mixer because they always have free coffee), Mountain Dew, cookies, candy, and mixed nuts. I would also snag some deserts and snacks at the buffet meals. The cabins have stocked expensive mini-fridges and snacks, leave a note asking housecleaning to remove so you can use the fridge for the items you brought.
Splurge for the 2nd deck cabin so you can open the outside doors and have some privacy watching the scenery, try bringing a magnet and metal plate to see if you can trigger the AC to stay on with the doors open (usually automatically disabled when the outside doors are open).

Been on one Viking river cruise and about to take another. Loved the ability to unplug and relax or engage as much as you like.

Thank you for mentioning the accessibility restrictions. I use a wheelchair and found that river cruising would not be possible sadly.

Some companies charge £1,000 a night for a cruise?! Clearly some people have more money than sense.

No way am I going to stay anywhere with a glass bathroom door

That's luxurious up to ours . Went with shearlings ,had a small cabin no balcony. This cruise was far better. Friends on board so no one would talk to us. ! Rhine on fire was terrible just a few fireworks. On the picture looked spectacular but wasnt. Meant friends with their. Friends so didnt speak to us.

I never encountered the glass bathroom doors in Italy but in looking at boutique hotels in Israel where I live, I noticed it seems to be a trend. I think it's awful. Since Israel has picked up on it, I suspect it comes from Germany/Eastern Europe where people are much more casual about these things. I would die if I were sharing a room with anyone, even, no especially a husband. There's this thing called modesty.

I am not a cruise person, but I do like boats, so this style would be more my speed and I would read. With that said breakfast ending at 9 am is criminal for a vacation.
