I feel what's missing in today's Club and Music scene can be found here in a video which shows some great music, a fire breathing drumming machine in Gene Krupa who can even get a tune out of boiler pipes let alone his magnificent, natural gift of timing. There is the example of Class., as shown in a Elegant, Attractive Singer, a Class Band with many, many talented musicians all dressed very smartly. A audience who is also elegantly dressed, both Ladies & Gentlemen, polite and appreciative of the music played.
I was born in 1948 but watched many B Grade Movies of the Big Band Era as a kid and while I understand the cost and complex problems with staging Big Band Concerts today I feel very fortunate om Australia.we still have these examples of such a Era, Classy stuff at it's best. Cheers All, from Australia, Denis.

I wonder if Karen Carpenter drew her inspiration from Gene Krupa? And boy, do those olden times look so great.

The man had a feel for rhythm and knew how to dazzle a crowd. After watching this i can tell where Keith Moon acquired his love for drums and outlandish style❤

Love this!! Gene drumming on the pipes and any thing he can drum on!! Great scene! Reminds of my days working at the DRF ( Daily Racing Form, a horse racing newspaper) well there was this guy in our office back in the 1980's and he was a hobby drummer etc and when he would come into our dept he would invariably drum on whatever was handy with whatever he could use as drum sticks. 😁 it was pretty cool and funny also but here is to you Carl Evanoff !!( was the fellow doing this) this )

Fantastic. One of the best musical movie sequences ever. Wonderful & complete ingenuity in drum soloing with a huge difference by Gene Krupa - my absolutely favourite drummer. Also love Buddy (Rich) & Joe (Morello). All of them speak drums to me.

My guess is Krupa is underrated. He is one of the pioneers of formulating the drum set, joined Glen Miller's band in 1938 becoming a national celebrity, and is the first drummer to do a drum solo on a commercial recording.

Something similar really happened...at the Essex House in New York in 1932. Richard Himber, the up and coming society bandleader, told management that NBC wanted to broadcast him and offered to play there. They said sure...but until we know how you will do, you won't play in our main dining room.

The band, and NBC's mic, ended up in a large storeroom full of busted up furniture. And from there, Himber broadcast with some of the best musicians in the country...and made such a hit that the Essex House was happy to let him play their main room.
