Coming from a 8086K to a 12900K, playing Halo Infinite has been SUBSTANTIALLY less smooth. I'm curious to what the issue is.

Anyone who haves a 12900k I would suggest doing the washer mod to the motherboard socket basically take a 1mm washer (nylon) put the washer on the 4 socket screws it relieves some of the clamping pressure on the IHS that causes it to bow once the washer mod is done the IHS is flat and drops temps by 10° or more because the cooler can now contact more of the IHS

I work heavily with 3D CAM modeling softwares. These are very CPU intensive tasks. I run 3 programs at the same time running simulations and rendering. There is a big difference in real world application between windows 11 and windows 10. On windows 10 it runs slower and for some stupid reason when I run my CAM application, it utilizes the ECores 1st. So I got a program that makes my CAM software priority and then I see windows 10 utilizing the PCores 1st. Strange. Also, when its at full load, the PCores will be at full load but the Ecores aren't being utilized.. it just sits there. Its like Windows 10 has no idea what to do with the cores. Even then, it will freeze for like 5secs at a time every couple hours or so, like complete freeze. My 12 core AMD 3900x Ryzen never froze like that.

Anyways I got fed up and did a clean install of Windows 11. Instantly it was running faster. Felt snappier. And no need to set Priorities with a separate software, windows 11 automatically knows to set my CAM application to Pcores. Also at full load it finally utilizes both Pcores and Ecores. No more freezes.

if you plan on getting 12th gen and running CPU intensive tasks, get Win 11

May I suggest. To make this type of review useful to more gamers to include battle royale games with full or close to full lobbies? Warzone is top on the list, Battlefield 2042 or even V is a good one. Don’t use bots. Run it on live games. I’m not sure how you would design a benchmark like that but I believe that is something really useful. Battle Royale are different they will paint the real picture in performance. Not only that, these are games that millions of people play. Please consider. Thanks!

Windows 11 cuts 10 to 20 FPS in games "Windows 11 is bad for gaming" like are you people serious? unless Windows 11 is causing severe performance issues while playing games, not only with these chips, but with any good enough gaming system, I see no cause for concern here.

Ответить
ENDITA KAMWENESHE
ENDITA KAMWENESHE - 02.01.2022 08:34

Looking at the gaming benchmarks, that is more of a game developer issue, not an issue with any of the chips, the fact that the performance gaps are varying across those games says it all.

Honestly I have zero concern for the temps and power consumption, my only concern is the fact that the chip isn't playing nice with various titles, been reports of games not running on this chip and some crashing constantly, they say it is the new architecture that isn't playing nice with some titles or maybe it is Denuvo causing it, this is going to be my first high end Intel gaming build with this chip and don't want anything else, I have always stuck to mid end systems for gaming and would just like to go all out this time around, I hope they fix this with updates, my high end system with a Ryzen 9 5950X is just for work.

10900k is the same performance as windows 10 and 11 because VBS is off by default. With the 12900k Windows 11 VBS is on by default. The latest AMD CPU's are the same. The only issues I have had with Windows 11 were fixed with driver updates.

HiP - 13.11.2021 06:39

you didn't mention the status of VBS on each OS. from the looks of it, you had it enabled on Win11 and disabled on Win10, which essentially invalidates all your results and conclusions.

You didn't mention if you disabled VBS or not on Win 11. If VBS is enabled then that explains the performance degradation on Win 11 vs 10

Good presentation. Alderlake may be Intel's best move in 10 years, but your work shows it's still beat by AMD in a few comparisons, so Intel has caught up and is back in front, but not by too much. It's clearly an expensive platform, still a work in process (in my opinion, if you include Window's scheduler as a part of that), and the POWER they are using concerns me. - AMD does a little less performance w/ so much less power. A couple months of software updates and Alderlake will shine more. But in several months AMD may have new CPU's coming out to steal some of that market, and who knows if they will play hardball w/ the prices to gain old Intel customers.

Honestly, what difference does it make if your CPU can provide 600 fps or 750 fps? Is there anyone on this planet who can tell the difference when playing a game? I didn't think so ...

For certain programs like DaVinci Resolve the 12900 is faster, no doubt about it. So if you are using that video editor the Intel chip will get a bit more work done for you in a given amount of time.

But for your average person all of these 12 and 16 and, no doubt soon to be, 24 core desktop CPUs are grotesque overkill. Not to mention an expenditure of cold hard cash that is unnecessary for for your average gamer. Or your average PC user of almost any sort.

I’m sorry guys but the difference in fairness and quality between this video and the video I saw on another more well known, extremely large tech channel, isn’t even in the same ballpark. Haven’t even gotten to the halfway point yet, but the way this starts by pointing out the crazy variances in power and heat, along with testing on all platforms, is in my opinion the only ethical way to do this.

To me the fact that gen 12 doesn't work perfectly on win10 isn't frustrating, considering win 11 is a free upgrade from 10. If you buy a brand new config to follow and be on top of the technology, why would you waste your time installing a Windows (10) dinosaurs on it!
