As someone who has played more of the naval side - the fire control and radar refits are a huge value add. The bots don't appear to refit their older designs at all, unfortunately.
ОтветитьFor refitting ships you can click on the design in the navy tab and upgrade it there instead of searching for the specific ship in the production tab
Ответить8000 torpedo dmg on the screen's btw
ОтветитьTaking the 45 steel from manchuko for 1 civ early to keep yuur ship production going is worty it imho
ОтветитьMin max Portugal
Ответить250 hours in the game and I just learned about shift+clicking in the tech tree... wow

ОтветитьCan't launch planes in port.
Ответитьloved the video and thank you so much, helped me a lot with learning japan, but also you forget that in the beginning of ww2 if the entire US fleet vs the entire japan fleet were to have clashed. japan would have won. now if it was 1942 to 45, US all day

ОтветитьI really loved the series.
ОтветитьThat final naval battle wasn’t fair at all due to tora tora tora
ОтветитьThe historical reason to why you can’t exercise your planes while in port is because back then the ship had to be moving at a certain speed in order for the planes to take off. So in turn the ships speed helps the planes take off.
ОтветитьFinal clash is about your admiral is better than Ameircan and maybe doctrine?
ОтветитьI really want to thank you for this Dave. I'm a noob and I know it with around 600 hrs in HOI4 I've never touched any Navy, but I've been feeling it's time. I should also thank PDX and AAT, being able to sell convoy's has finally made me do more than finish the production que.
ОтветитьFor those of you on R56, this does not work lmfao
ОтветитьIn the final naval battle the reason the carriers did no damage is that there was a storm, planes cant take off during storm,so only ship guns were being used
ОтветитьThe AI never researches any new naval tech. They will eventually create upgraded models of ships but only using the modules they had researched at the start. All navies are utter trash ships at the start. Mostly tier 1 hulls with a few tier 2's for some nations. I'm pretty sure all starting BB's and BC's use the tier 1 turrets and tier 1 armor. So if you start upgrading your existing fleet for a nation like Japan to just have better guns and torpedoes, especially tier 3's which the AI never obtains, as well as radar/planes you will already be ahead. When you factor in the passive bonus techs you wind up being 100-200% better ship for ship. Because for example the tier 1 light batteries do 1 light damage compared to the tier 3 doing 2 and having more piercing. So if all things are equal your ships will wreck their screens fast enough to lose screening efficiency and start letting damage, especially torpedoes, into the capital ships. It takes I believe 3 screens per capitol ship to get max screening bonus. The US fleet had 31 capitol ships in the fight so they need 93 screening ships to screen effectively. The moment they lost the 2 CL's and 37 DD's their screening efficiency started dropping. Meaning that's when you started to damage capitol ships and you'll note the next hour of combat they lost a CA. You won the screening part of the battle because your ships we likely doing 2-3 times as much damage and inflicting more crits.
You can actually whittle down the larger navies in the game by building heavy cruisers(CA) with tier 3 turrest, armor, engines, radar, and fire control. Screened by DD's and CLs running the same gear ,except switch the radar for sonar, using just the one default torpedo module with all tier 3 guns/dual purpose guns and a single depth charge for the DD's and 2 planes per CL in the secondaries slots. Put them in fleets of 2-4 CA's with 1CL 3DDs per CA so you don't lose screening if a DD gets knocked out. Try and balance your production of ships such that you build them in the 1:1:3 ration and just add them to the main fleet as you go. I find it's most effective to get about 4 or 5 of these fleets and put them in 1 or 2 regions doing naval patrol. They will have excellent spotting thanks to the CL and be faster than the enemy fleet because they will have tier 3 engines. Since they are fast when one task force find a fleet the other ones will arrive within a few hours to reinforce sucking larger fleets into battles because they engaged thinking they had numbers on you. So if the fleet is smaller than about 5-6 times your size you'll almost always win with little or no damage. Mainly because their guns won't pierce your tier 3 armor on the CA's and CL's and your guns will pierce them easily.
The final battle was during a storm, that's why the carriers didn't do much.
ОтветитьIt's a shame that Japan's poorly made focus tree was when Japan was a maritime power with several aircraft carriers, since it doesn't have a giant branch of navy and infantry if they were a monster in combat, the game disappointed me, the Japanese navy sank several aircraft carriers and faced the navy of several countries only by sinking aircraft carriers
ОтветитьWhy are there thumbs-up icons instead of helmets when a division dies, now?
ОтветитьI actually followed up watching this behemoth of a series by incorporating some of your strats into a USA playthrough, namely the naval upgrade methods you used here (and your fighter/bomber designs from your Hungary playthrough today) and I gotta say man, you are an absolute G for both of these series. The US base dleet, fully upgraded with all the passives like you did here, is an absolute MONSTER. Thanks for all the great content, happy Christmas!
ОтветитьI LOVED all of the every single click videos! Cheers Dave ❤ Go get some rest now lol
ОтветитьPressed one
Ответитьone tip regarding carriers. the overstacking only applies to carrier naval bombers and carrier cas. it does not apply to carirer fighters. so as japan you should use your 2 smaller carriers, the ones with 20 ish deck size for pure carrier fighter duties and the others as naval bomber hosts. also the careir oenality is maxed at 80% so building like 30 or so going RELAY crazy into carries is a fun thing to do aginst noobs/the ai
ОтветитьI just noticed the subtle touch on the icon when enemy division are encircled and destroyed. Instead of a helmet popping, there is a like button appearing. Marvelous.
ОтветитьI’m really happy with this video. The navy is really hard to use. I appreciate the guidance. I actually built a navy that wasn’t all submarines after watching this video. I still lost but it was fun and I did better than I usually do.
ОтветитьAs someone who 1. Just recently did a Japan run to get Sunset Invasion and 2. Does not normally give a shït about navy stuff in HOI4, this was absolutely fascinating to watch.
ОтветитьYou sound knackered at the beginning.. appreciate the effort!!
ОтветитьMin max Greece pls)
ОтветитьEvery single click rules!

ОтветитьThat was awasome! Seven days of education for me. I only have 20 hours in the game and what was you said, just enjoy the game was a massive help for me, because I instantly started achievment hunting and felt it boring.
I really wanna see you play as minor nations as well!
Big high five for everything you done

ОтветитьI really enjoy your long form videos! I'm sure they're a lot of work to put together so I appreciate getting so many in a row!
ОтветитьHey if you do an other week of This could you do Switzerland l would Love to see that ❤

ОтветитьThe AI Fleets pretty much always lose badly, that's why in single player you can pretty much ignore the naval game 90% of the time and still win it. Especially late-game.
Unless of course you're going in blind with no radars, sonars or recon planes. Then and only then do you lose naval battles to the AI.
...Or when your entire navy is made up of destroyers with light guns and no torpedoes, another classic mistake.
Btw how do you queue that company focus thingy? I didnt even know you can do that
ОтветитьHonestly, refitting your Navy with new Fire Controls and Radar/Sonar seems worth it IMO
ОтветитьHonestly, think more nations that want to focus on Navy should be able to take a hit of -10% factory output for +10% dockyard output because the reason NOBODY goes Navy is because it's just too expensive!
ОтветитьThis is exactly the kind of content I like
