Thank you very very much for this video. My poor brain was getting fried trying to understand how the M.2 NVME SSDs worked with this NAS.

Stupid, only Synology SSD's are able to be used as a storage, they are twice as expensive ! WHY Synology !

Hello Brother. In the list of hardware approved by Synology, there are only the NVMe from the manufacturers themselves. Regardless if I'm going to use the 2 PCI slots as CACHE or STORAGE, do you know if I can run a NVMe FURY KINGSTON, WD SN770, SAMSUNG 980 or other compatible solutions?

한 마디로 전용 m.2 SSD NVME를 사용하지 않으면 스토리지풀로 사용할 수 없다는 말씀이군요.

Thanks for this great video, it adds a lot of clarity for me. One quick question, please. I plan to purchase 1/2 Synology NVMe 400GB to add to those slots first (without the HDD in the disk bays), and initiate the NAS first so that the "system" installation be populated in those NVMe, hopefully improve the NAS boot time and processing in general. Would it work like that? Some have said that the NAS "system" distributed in all membered disks, so boot time won't be improved by adding SSDs.

DS1522+ now has it too. Will third party drives work? 2x4TB generic Samsung drives for a pool would be sweet.

When you select to use them as volumes, is that permanent? Or can you change their function to cache at another time?

If you create volume, does it also work as cache at the same time?

The limitation to use only Synology SSD is unacceptable for me. I will not use. My be it's better to look for an other NAS manufacturer.

It is annoying that Synology is pushing its own branded drives more and more. However, between the Ryzen CPU and the single 10G NIC there isn't much utility in NVMe flash pools for network-attached storage since it will always be bottlenecked. I see little point in doing this for a pro-sumer/SMB product, it's more of a me-to marketing gimmick. If you want to run VMs, containers or apps at scale just buy a real server(s) running a real hypervisor.

Thank you so much for making this video. I was planing on buying this NAS, specially for this new feature, but the vendor limitation makes it useless for me. I'll be better off buying another model with more bays and just make a SATA SSD volume, I think it will be just fast enough for iSCSI boot.
