Pacha always reminded me of my dad. Warm voice, large (at least until my highschool growth spurt), kind to everyone around him, doesn't suffer idiots, and is fully aware his family is full of terrors.

I always saw a different angle in that kuzco had no family. in all the images of his youth-no family at all is shown. it was always servants, there was no warmth or connections there, no one to teach him anything other than 'you are the ruler, you have all the power, what you say goes no matter what' and pacha is the father figure that turns him this all powerful ruler into an actual mature human being over time. the end scenes of him with pacha and his family swimming it just feels so much like an adopted child who has finally been made to realize his adopted parents do love him and do care about what type of person he is that is the real telling point.

The Emporer's New Groove is easily my fave Disney movie - largely because it only has two musical numbers (the same song, sung once in the beginning and once at the end). It was also comedy gold!

He kind of comes off as a sociopath when he tells Pacha that he doesn't care where the families end up. It's a little disturbing, actually

I recently confronted a narcissistic person in my friend group and they decided that if I'm in a space, that they wont be there (cause they cant acknowledge how their actions hurt others so theyre just gonna run from them). And I'm A okay with that lol

What if your personal Kuzco is a parent? Because in that case you can't just set boundaries, not in a stable position, in some scenarios

I always interpreted a great amount of loneliness in kuzco too, like when he says "it's my bday gift to me" I always felt a bit sad for him in that moment, like he must have absolutely nobody. Like on top of the NPD, he also just doesn't have a genuine Person he can turn to or hang out with, he's only surrounded by fearful servants. So when pacha shows up and not only sees through him immediately, but also sticks with him despite everything, it gives kuzco something he's never had before, someone being Real around him without any alternate agenda, who also doesn't quit on him. To me that's what plants the first nuggets of empathetic change in kuzco.

i know you guys mostly do movies, but i'd really would like you guys do a take on Avatar the last airbender
covering the characters or atleast one of them, Aang or maybe Zuko. But tbh all of them have a very interesting story dealing with their own hardships etc and it effecting their surroundings

I think this was one of the first movies that I watched that for me, had that antihero vibe lol I was like "he's so unlikeable!" and then he redeems himself in a way that you see he's still Kuzco with the big ego but a more humane version... Pacha had this dad vibe to him that who's parenting strategy is to let his kid realize for himself what is good or bad and not really get all on his face ranting how he should change... plus having those tiny signs of affection no matter what because hes a really good person... he's not "telling him" how to be a good person, he's unconsciously showing him how to with his actions.

Many years ago due to a terrible loss I got severely depressed and suicidal.
The "weird" talking between Kuzco and his own voice reminded me of that time, because I tried to give sense to what had happened to my life and so I was creating a narrative of what had happened in my head as if I was telling someone the story, but then part of me wasn't satisfied with it and I kept changing it.
I felt I could easily enter a psychosis if I wanted to, but I was scared of not being able to ever leave it again.
And I think for Kuzco what happened to him in the beginning must have felt extremely traumatic, because suddenly nothing made sense any more.
So in my view his two voices interacting on a meta level is actually pretty realistic 😅

@Cinema Therapy , I Have A Serious Question For Jono Relating To The Topic(s) Discussed In This Particular Episode Regarding Narcissism In General. But Maybe More Specifically, Maybe A Person With NPD, If They "Don't Seem To Be A "'Full Blown'" Narcissist." My Question Is, If I Know Someone Who I Believe To Have NPD, Or They May Be A Full On Narcissist, Would It Be Possible For Said Individual To Watch This Episode And Identify Traits About Themself From Kuzco To Actually Have Their Eyes, Mind, And Heart Opened Up About If They Actually Are A Narcissist Themself?

The best part, in my opinion, is that they didn't have a script. They didn't have a script until after the movie was finished and being watched.

This video opened my eyes that I am finally ready to face my ex that clearly suffers from NPD even tho he's not officially diagnosed. I am finally strong enough to set my boundaries with respect to him without feeling anxious and even afraid of him shaming me for drawing them.
Thank you internet dads! 🙏🏻☺️

To me, Kuzco talking to the voiceover is him talking to his Ego that wants to keep him in the victim state. A lot of people that suffer from NPD are complacent in the victimhood state.

As you get older you realize just how alone Kusco really is. Even since birth he has servants catering to him. No mom or dad in the beginning with him as a baby. He has everything handed to him and given to him. You can tell the contrast from Pacha that he had to work for everything he has. It takes work to love others, but you have to work harder to be selfish.

As a peruvian, i can 100% say that this movie is based on a true events and historians have said this actually happened, meaning reality is blessing us with memes and good comedy

Oh, and the line of Pacha calling Kuzko a "demon lama" when first seeing him as a lama HAS to be a direct reference to a horrifying legend from Peru
This legend is about how anyone who commits some nasty actions, only to transform into a demonic lama at night eating other people's brains (from what i heard from my mother's side of her family since they know and even live in those type of areas where there from), it's horrifying to say it can even shapeshift into a demonic giant dog that can walk on its two hind legs. The demonic lama would be called the Jarjacha and it would roam around at night in the Appalachian Mountains of Peru. So everytime i watch this movie and for those who know the context of these nasty actions from the legend, let's just be grateful the way disney incorporated a different way to show how Kuzko became a lama, which adds a whole other meaning to the line from Pacha, "demon lama", which to be fair, who could blame him. plus if you look in the eyes of the jarjacha, it can control you somehow, causing you to go near it as it makes noise that goes something like JAR-JAR-JAR-JAR (in english, Har-Har-Har) multiple times.

Also here a is a short story i would like to share that two of my family members, my aunt and grandma (again, these two are from my mom's family side), have encountered one at night in a district province called Ayacucho.
It was late at night when both were walking back home and the part where they were was a town that upon going up the road, there was barely any light, just only street lamps so imagine that when going back home AT NIGHT. So when they were going back home, saw a shadow nearby for what seemed to be of a dog, only to rise its two hind legs and reveal its enormous size to them. Then both got scared and quickly got out of there until they made back to safety. Even till now, i could already tell this event must've traumatized them horribly and since it was nighttime when that happened, it was even worse for them. Luckily, right now they are okay and i am just happy. Plus the town is mostly a forest in small mountains so also imagine that when you are out alone in the dark at night. cuz that is really chilling the more i come and think about it.

Another great movie to watch :-) Re apologies: I've seen this process used as a power play or a way of saying I won, you lost. Custo uses face-saving which is a big thing in Asian and Polynesian cultures. It creates a space to acknowledge a wrong without enforcing abasement which can lead to resentment and further bad behaviour. Yes it creates an area of grey but my observation is that it also builds social cohesion.
