How to Fix iOS 15 & iOS 16 Stuck on Preparing Update on iPhone/iPad

PROBLEM: hi! i had this problem when i was trying to update my ipad, and i stopped doing the update and was stressed for 3 weeks worrying about not being able to update again.

FIX: i attempted the update a week later, and it was very slow, but it updated! i’m not stressed anymore, and i can relax. all you have to do is wait for a while and it will work! trust me on this! hope this helps! 😊

I had the same issue: After attempting to transfer from iPhone 10 to iPhone 12. 15.5 was the issue… the update failed multiple times.

The FIX: I went to iPhone storage… deleted the iOS download from the iPhone Storage option and POWERED OFF the iPhone using the power button and volume up rocker. Turned on and redid the update from scratch. It worked. No third party apps needed or nothing. I hope this works for you guys.

I was having this “problem”. The bar was stuck in the same spot for 5-10 minutes, then suddenly moved forward a lot. Just be patient and it should update, especially if you have already reset multiple times.

I did a backup and then I restored and updated my device, then I just restored the backup and it worked - all through iTunes.

My iPad (8th generation, 2020) has been stuck in this issue for what seems like hours. I guess I'll plug it in and leave it alone all day to see if it ever decides to finish.

my problem is i just got a new iphone 12 and i cant get into the menu because its not even finished setting up but it wont let me move on without updating

I just needed to wait, especially since my phone is older- iphone7, the process can take up to a couple of hours. I just had to make sure there was enough space for download, plugged it in and let it go. It took and hour and 45 minutes, but time was the only cure for me.

Can anyone help me, my grandma passed away and my mom wants to use her phone (Iphone 11), i wiped my grandma’s phone so we could connect my mom’s phone (iphone 7) with it, after connecting the iphone 11 said ios 15.3.1 update, the update is downloaded but it says preparing update for a very long time!

I lost my 7 GB data while updating but still unable to update my iPhone XR. Please reply

all i did to fix it was manually set it up and not transfer the data from my old phone :))

for anyone with this problem just hold down the button shut it down and set it up manually without transferring data from other phone , then once your in update it normally then factory reset it then transfer the data

uh i just got a new phone and it has to update to ios 15 before the data transfer but its stuck on “preparing update” and “downloading”

i have done the new IOS15 update for a few days now, but today my iphone xr got stuck on the lock screen.
if I try to unlock the phone I get a black loading screen and then the logo with the apple, and then it turns on again and I still encounter this problem.
i don't know how to fix this bug, if you can help me i would be happy :(
