I used to listen to the world service of radio moscow to pick up tiny scraps about their station program and various (doomed) mars missions. Your videos are fantastic - lots of new info even for someone who's been an anorak for years.

I was docking in Ksp and my space craft crashed into my space station same as mir

The best thing about it is that this was real.

Would have been neat if they could have left MIR in orbit. It would have been a secondary ship, maybe for emergencies. Or as an emergency shelter in space. It would only get power during certain times, but for a shelter operation, sometimes best effort will just have to do.

There was a cosmonaut that was in space for waaaaaay too long during all this, just no funding to bring him home. Not sure why he couldn't have caught a ride with US or Germany. I also believe he fell in love with the mission controller on the ground, they were later married.

I was reminded of the most difficult part of the old computer game ELITE: Trying to to dock to the space station without a docking computer (because you can't afford one yet).

Mars is going to need it's own MARS ISS long before man steps on the surface of Mars for the first time . . .

The whole idea to attempt a manual docking in that manner was really bad. I don't know what mission control were thinking. People on the station were lucky to survive.

As an American I think Polyus was sabotaged (from the inside?) and I think this collision was obviously an accident

Michael Foale gave a talk at my school a few years ago and told us this story first hand. He said the Russians had planned to evacuate but were told by ground control that they had no choice but to stay and try and save the station
