The "eBay reset" explained - do this today to get back your page views sales & customer engagement

Yet page views were nonexistent when I listed stuff for my son…I’ve never seen it so hard to get views and sales as I did when helping my son start his eBay account for selling…zero views for weeks at a time….and then the views they did get eBay would take them away the next day….I searched for an item and took 30 mins to find the item by typing in the exact listing title …we called eBay and asked if we were missing something and they said nope all looks good…..4 months into it and he was only getting 2 to 3 sales per month…and the items were quick sellers for me when I sold similar on my account a few years back….I honestly think it’s just eBay making it harder especially on American sellers to sell anything…the planned destruction of our economy cuz they’ve attacked every industry there is now that would be considered a side hustle type thing..,,and I mean they as in the gov and their subsidiary cohorts at the irs and so on….they need america to finally crash

eBay is so flooded with counterfeit and fake items, a lot of people don't even bother shopping on it anymore. You can't even look for something and not have obvious fakes come up in the search. And eBay seemingly does NOTHING about this? Unless it's something so niche and specific, it's not safe to buy on it anymore. I rarely sell anything anymore, and I purchase even less. What's an alternative?

The reality is...should we even need to be doing all this just to make sales? It's embarrassing for eBay as a selling platform that people are making more sales on Facebook marketplace, a social media site. Don't keep yourself where it's hard to stay. Sellers migrate. Use different platforms. Let them get the message that we will not jump because they say jump

Search is crazy on eBay right now. I can search for the same thing multiple times and get different items available each time. It no longer looks for the exact words. It looks for similar items. Before I could search red wagons and get 10 hits for red wagons. Now I see 1000 hits for red / blue / green wagons / wheel barrows / cars. I can put “wagon” to trim it down but most users don’t know to do that. Hurts calculating sell through rate too.

If you have so many items like a basic store, you can't do that without going over and being charged for it. I tried and had to contact eBay because I wasn't getting sales, but paying a basic store fee, and Then was almost charged a great deal over my basic fee. Make sure you only do it to your limit of items you can list for the month. I guess if you can afford a premium store, then it might work, but if someone hasn't got there yet to that point, then they need to be aware of this.

Definitely right before Thanksgiving worst since I started ebay in 1998. Been doing end listing, sell similar since auction professor mentioned it months ago. Was re-organizing my inventory recently & many items I listed years ago were no longer even listed in my store! No wonder they didn't have watchers or sales.

I read through these comments and so many of you pour your life into Ebay full time yet have virtually no recognition that you even exist to anyone their after 10,20+ years! When i started total fees were under 5% and final value fees capped at $50.

Does this have to be a premium store to delete and sell similar? Will this work with a starter store?

Wanted to update you on our progress. Still doing the sell similar. Did the complete store refresh about a month ago. Do daily morning end and sell similar for about 1000 to 1400 items from my store. Usually run them about 900 am or so my time every day. As of now, the store is very active. High impressions, views are higher then they been in months, sales continue to come in, not like before but very busy. Happy overall with the results so far. Still doing the recommended items you had mentioned in your various videos. So thank you for all the postings. At least the bills are paid now and i got pay!! What I am trying now is the end of the month like today November 30. I am going to end and sell similar 3200 items so it will refresh the half of my store heading into a new month. But so far the results are going very good but one thing I have noticed, I hardly get any sales during the day at all. They are coming in later in the night. So I dont know if the items I sell similar take hours to index on the ebay site. Also still promoting. Im currently zeroing in on 4.1 percent. Ill keep the updates coming in.

So if we don’t (yet) have a store we cannot do this easily or or did I not understand that part? I would like to understand the difference in the procedure/cost to try this fix please - much appreciated!

by surpressing items ebay is doing a disservice to its customers as they are not necessarily getting the best price on item they are buying. They are more limited and maybe overpaying as people promoting will probably have a tad bit more added onto their price because they promoted and will lose more money

Promoted listings has not helped sell the 15 items I am trying it on. The items are Signed 70s 8os artisan jewelry known names some Taxco and Native American. These items sell for $150 to $500. The few things I have sold in the last two months are under $100 more like 50 in other categories. I consistently send offers this works better. I even did a 30% off sale last week for two categories Pyrex and BeautyCounter sold nothing. Two days after the sale ended a BeautyCounter sold with an offer for a lower percent. I have 153 items in my store today. listing a few more everyday. I regularly do end/sell similar so nothing in my store is older than 6 - 8 weeks old.

Mailseum’s stats comparing 2007 and now for increases in # sellers and eBay total sales which you have cited seems a significant issue, they are way out of balance. % Total sales increase is way lower than corresponding # sellers increase.

Quick question. For sellers who sell multiples of their items and have reasonable sales for those items, wouldn't they lose sale history if they ended and relisted their complete store?

The economy is in the crapper, when gas and oil are up this high it causes everything to go up in price, everything has to be trucked or driven by boat, plane, train, delivery van or whatever, the consumer gets it tenfold by everything having to go up in price, think of all the things that gas or oil is used for, people just simply can not afford to spend extra right now, most are saving for Christmas and wont have much extra, when supposed wages go up the employer has to raise prices to compensate for that also, this is what is going on!!!

I was under the impression that for a premium store I got 10K listings for a month. I sell mainly clothing and have a 2600 item store. I don't think I could use this method. I end a sell similar about 50 items a day. I also have a ton of markdowns of different percentages. After 30 days, I put a markdown on items. If you end and sell similar, you would have to go in a put the markdowns back on. This is extremely time consuming! Sales are definitely way down though but I do get some sales on Poshmark and Mercari....

I have 7 digit total sales and been on Ebay since 1997. I own a warehouse and ship, but I an say I have shifted MANY safes off of Ebay including Facebook marketplace. Ebay's service is horrible, false SNAD claims, one rep says one thing, another rep says that rep was wrong. I am happy if Ebay went out of business. I make good money already in my life, but I would not recommend Ebay UNLESS you have unique with high margins. I have say $100 in an item and sell for $300-$700, specialty tech items I clean/refurb and give a year warranty. Ebay has lost steam and not coming back, only higher fees will come, so do your best to drop enclosures in the box to sell direct-we do for sure. Gary

I have 3,000 listings in my store but have cut way back on buying from eBay because the listing pages are too cluttered with promoted items. Having to search through all of that mess is taking from my listing time so it makes more sense to just say "forget it" and keep listing.

I called in ebay about few months b/c of VERY slow sales and I was transfer over to sales dept, sale rep looked over my ebay account and there was no issue (restriction) but he did further investigation on it and he didn't say directly but it was more indirect comment saying that my listing was not active or something, this confused me b/c on the seller side my listing appeared to be active so I really understood what he was saying. After the phone call, I thought it about it and my conclusion is that every time ebay does updating, I think ebay put the active listing into inactive mode and after it finished with updating, it suppose to go live but b/c of ebay glitch, it says in inactive mode. I think when you use "sell similar", it forces inactive listing into active listing, this is why you see organic impression spike

By the way, page view went up +30% ebay overall, external page range from 1%~75%, that 1% was my vintage store but in ebay, it is 50%

10/29/2023, ok I have been doing sell similar thing for about 1 week now and I will tell you that it does help with sales a LOT, I have multiple premium store (total 6,000 items) and across the board, organic impressions spike pass promoted listing (advertisement dashboard) when I relist (list sell similar) item. I have been using end/relist feature (more than 4 years) b/c it was easier and it was effective but not anymore. I'm pretty sure the Ebay suppress organic impression b/c it is like straight line, there is no peak or valleys. Try sell similar thing but I do, do one more thing before I put everything on sale, I either increase or decrease the price $0.03 (by using bulk edit) hoping to refresh algo.

What is your opinion on using social media, X, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook, to promote your store or listings?

The impressions were up 280% but sales down 40%. Makes no sense unless impressions do in fact no matter.

All of these are symptoms of a grossly under-qualified leadership at eBay. As buyers (and sellers) began leaving the platform leadership had the choice to invest in buyer and seller retention and marketing to attract new buyers and sellers. Sadly, they chose to manufacture profit while the actual business shrunk by increasing fees, incorporating payment processing and the worst of all "promoted listings". Short term result, eBay corp nets a profit. Long term result, buyers leave the platform because they are receiving non-search related "promoted" search results (I'd leave too if a can not find what I'm looking for). Also sellers leave because "promotion" results in a reduced margin and as mentioned sellers can not find your items that they would otherwise purchase.

I agree this delete/sell similar definitely works, it's the method we've e been using this past year and it definitely increased our sales.

Back in the day eBay used to let you set your listings at different time lengths. I would use the 7 day listing as my items would get exposure at the beginning of the post and when the item was getting ready to end. Now we only have the 30 day option. I also think eBay has taken away some if not all the exposure at the end of the 30 days. I believe that Cassini favors new listings and that is why you are seeing such great results. I will be interested to see if the favorable results last over the course of a couple of months. Great video. 👍

It's because when you delete, sell similar, it shows as a new listing towards the top of the page search and buyers think they can get the item before anyone else does and think it wasn't sitting around forever on eBay with no interest.

You are low energy, dull, slow, not exciting. It is a chore to listen to you. I am sorry. Your content is probably valuable, but most won't stick around long enough to hear it.

For all the content creators you surely understand that you have boosted the amount of new sellers by a huge margin, in effect your creating your own dilemma. The new sellers are listing the new way lets call it , with item specifics, good items and most importantly structured listings and promoted sales. Its going to be difficult to fix a store with thousands of items, all you can realistically do is continue to list new items the right way and take a good look at the suggested promoted percentages. Its my opinion, with a grain of salt, that your desperation to sell in these huge inventory stores your promoting yourself right out of business with little to no profit. We can sell all day long but at what price are you willing to pay. I dont think the algorithm sees any gain for a CD or a Cassette that's selling for 2.99 with free shipping.. that ship will sink for sure !

Ebay recently switched to a "personalized" search engine that is based on the search & buying habits of buyers. I think that's the main cause of our tanking sales. I can't post a link here, so you'll have to search for "Evolving Recommendations: A Personalized User-Based Ranking Model."
