Error “package android.support.v7.app does not exist”

If I do this. app will not work / crash with old android phones. I need this to work on old phones that still running on android 6.

Thanks a lot it clearly worked for me, the "import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;" is an old library that google replaced with import androidx.appcompat.app.AppCompatActivity;
