Your not really living off the grid if you pack in solar panels, batteries and propane. All of those are intensive to make using diesel or fossil fuels. You can't make solar panels or batteries without oil. It's all a farce.

I like chicken fried squirrel in lard. You then put it in a thin white gravy and simmer it on low for an hour. The meat will fall off the bone.

Be sure to keep an open kettle or pot of water on that wood stove at night so your nasal passages don't dry out

I'm a native Texan but lived in W.v. for five years. I used to keep my hunting clothes outside on a clothesline and would periodically beat them with spruce branches a few days before a hunt. I also used oversized cheap white Tyvek painters suits in the winter to blend in with the snow. I've had mule deer come within 5' of me on still hunts and tracked them to within 100' while following tracks. I only step when they do and try not to walk with a steady rhythm. They dont mind as much if you sweep your feet through snow as much as the sound of regularly stepping though the crunchy top layer of snow. I had a tom cat who helped me squirrel hunt and i could direct him to walk past a tree so a squirrel would run back to my side so i could get a shot. As a reward i would twist one of their heads off and he'd carry it around all day.

Plant Jerusalem artichoke. It can be left in the ground until you are ready to eat it. Has similar nutrients to potatoes but they don't have to be removed from the ground to keep them from spoiling.

Deer must be different there cuz the absolute best time to hunt deer is in the rainy and cold!! They like to keep moving to stay warm.. in California deer season the only time I’ve ever shot deer is in the rain .. I seen over 400 deer in 3days in the rain and then not a single deer fir the rest of the season in the sun.. so I’ve learned to absolutely love the rain cuz that’s when you see deer here

Those traps need to be brushed in and the wire on the floor covered in dirt and leaf litter. Animals don’t like metal on their feet, it’s foreign to them.

The challenge is a good idea but i dont think killing and eating everything you see is part of the challenge and shouldn't include stocking some guys freezer for an entire winter.
People should pay for what they eat and supplement that with game if they want. Not live for free, the animal numbers we have to work with these days. It is a very unstable system now. Those big trout are lucky to reacj that size. Get to good at hunting and your done eventually. Why dont you try fatten up the trout by throwing leftovers to them after a fishing session

I use a $75 pellet gun with a broken sight and every squirrel of aimed at I've killed them dead on the spot if you can't kill a squirrel with a thousand-dollar airgun maybe you need to be do something different
