There was a lot of numbers quoted by Eaton at the beginning of the video with 4000 people killed, 70,000 in hospital, 126 Billion Euro and 25% of fires by an electrical failure. While sad to see these figure, I help feeling this is scaremongering. If Arc Fault Detection and Disconnection was introduced, how are these figures likely to be reduced?
Are there any investigative results that show the differences between the detection and disconnection of a parallel Arc Fault from both an AFDD vs RCBO?
A series Arc Fault would not be detected by conventional means and may require consideration of AFDD.
However, as these devices are costly and required double space within the DC, is user Education, good installation practices, periodic inspection and testing an alternative method of preventing arc faults. I feel that increasing the skill of installers and maintenance providers would be more beneficial than installing devices in place of workmanship?
