Incoming tide at Weston super Mare

A short video showing how fast the tide covers the mud flats at Weston super Mare.

Filmed from the Uphill end of the beach, it shows how you can get caught out by the speed of the incoming water. This was filmed on a day when the tide was quite slow !

Note how far even the birds have sunk into the surface. The mud here is sinking mud - so deep that anyone trying to walk on it can literally vanish ! Around the River Axe, the mud is well over six feet deep. Even if you don't sink completely its easy to go in so deep that you are unable to move and if you do manage to stay on the surface, the energy needed to keep moving is huge and you very soon become exhausted - and then the water catches you up......

Its a fantastic seaside resort - but stay on the sand !
