Hi Naomi do you know of a Voice service such as Google Voice that is available in Mexico or Latin America? The MySudo service is also only available in a handful of countries right? What similar service do you recommend for this region?

I really wish it was this easy in Spain. None of the services mentioned in the video are available and it seems that VoIP numbers are only offered for companies but nothing for individuals. Seems I'm stuck with traditional SIM contract.

That's an overwhelming wealth of info. So much so that it freezed into doing nothing at all. Is there a simpler, get-started version for dummies?

We are also aware that in this digital age, our personal info is open to the malicious whims of opportunistic deviants. That said, it feels we require an engineering degree to traverse this tech-savvy terrain.

So, biggest question is once we've created multiple VOIP numbers, do we go back into all our old accounts and start swapping in the new categorized alias number? It seems that once could just link our new number with our old number effectively burning that new number? Thoughts?

How do you solve the problem of giving your actual phone number out to friends etc?

If that person has Facebook or ANY other social media app, then you can bet that your phone number is going to be compromised.

Facebook goes into a person's contacts & sends them back to Facebook.

Now they have your phone number because your family member saved it under your first & last name.

Rinse & repeat for every social media app they have.

How do you get past this?
If you ever want a text message again lol.

Can voip numbers send & receive SMS?

I think this needs a more in depth video specifically desciribing the threat model this is fighting, because I'm not exactly clear how each step addresses some problem. Like if all my #'s are voip, I have to use wifi all the time? Can't use any cell towers, right? Isn't that one of the whole points of a phone? Also we need to know how to spoof being a cell number and not a voip as vital information, since MANY services don't accept voip numbers.

DON'T EVER USE GOOGLE VOICE. THEY PLAY DIRTY GAMES AND WILL LOCK YOU OUT OF YOUR ACCOUNT AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET BACK IN. DO NOT USE THEM. EVEN WITH TWO FACTOR AUTHENTICATION THEY WILL LOCK YOU OUT. DO NOT USE. THEY ARE EVIL SCUM.

I have just binge-watched three excellent videos, about How Your WiFi Is Betraying You, How Security Keys work (2FA explained) and this one, Getting MULTIPLE PRIVATE Phone Numbers . Great stuff, Well done! thank you for these excallent videos and fot the other ones I am going to watch.
With regartds to this video, I would have loved so see an idea of costs for receiving calls and making outbound calls via VOIP, as I guess unlimited VOIP calls are not included . Perhaps it is something I can ask the VOIP company about .

Where does this end? I have to firewall my life so much that even my phone number is suspect. How am I supposed to keep track of all of this? Also in another video you state my wifi isn't safe either.

So, are Google Voice and MySudo both VOIP providers, or would I port to GV and then sign up for MySudo? That part is a bit confusing... or maybe I'm just dumb lol

Just thinking about how you could totally get the parents on board with the 'different number for school' thing.

The look of utter astonishment and 'you are my hero' when you tell somehow how to turn off all the unwanted app notifications on their phone and then that crestfallen look when they go 'but I can't block unknown numbers because school', having separate 'emergency number(s)' they could keep on while switching other hassles off could be a game changer.

Also empowering for making sure work hours stay within work hours. Even managing voluntary hours, which is sometimes even worse because volunteer jobs don't have work hours.

Also had one time a friend went camping and switched off their phone because they couldn't deal with one side of the family, only to relatedly realise their satellite phone had failed and their emergency back up person and other side of the family were panicking. I showed them how to block everyone but emergency contacts while on silent mode after that but yeah... multiple phone numbers could have been really useful, if only to leave one emergency contact number to their back up person available while still switching the rest of the world off.

It’s a shame Google Voice only works in the US (for this purpose). They’re the cheapest because there is no ongoing monthly cost to keep the number active, and they have excellent security options unlike the smaller VoIP providers (who all seem oriented towards offering commercial solutions to businesses, not privacy-conscious individuals looking to hide their location from cell towers).

Are there other VoIP provider options for numbers? I already use ProtonMail for secure email. I don't need yet another wallet for digital credit cards. I already lock down my Firefox mobile browser as best one can. I like to keep functionality separate. So, does anyone know of a good VoIP provider that focuses on just the phone numbers?

Hi, if you do not have a WIFI connection can you make a VOIP phone call or send a text message on cellular data and if you do so, does that ping you on the map via cellular tower negating all privacy of location that VOIP provides?

That is true....

The main problems are psychological...

Humans are creatures of habit....whatever makes life easier is paramount...

One phone number across many accounts year after year means you are easy to track and easy to predict.

Sudo looks like a promising service. However they require you have a google (android) account and charge your service fee through that. Doesn't seem anonymous.

I agree. Be careful who you give your info to.

I was cyberstalked for months on end with spoofed texts and calls raining down on me. I filed a restraining order and that didn't stop them and they never showed up to court. I filed a violation of the injunction so I hope that does the trick.

My Google Voice # was once rejected by a business but my VoIP home land line replacement (Call Centric) never has been. And they have really effective telemarketer blocking. I get one of those calls maybe once every 3 months at most.

Okay, let's say I port my phone number to Google Voice. But which phone number should I associate with the Google account for password resets? If it's the one I'm porting, then I'm at risk of being locked out of this account permanently because no one can stop Google from randomly requiring me to 2FA using the same phone number in case their AI thinks there's suspicious activity. And it can't be a SIM number because that would be not secure. So I need a VOIP number to secure my VOIP number... Not sure what's the foundation for this turtle tower.

Unfortunately several sites are blocking the use of VOIP numbers. I would venture a guess that it is because they can't track me, and build a profile on me.

Using voip for sensitive sites seems problematical to me. Voip can be hacked and you don't have anyone to call to fix it. Only slow email and maybe text. I say use a landline for sensitive sites. Regular cell for friends and family. Then voip for social sites.

There are issues with all choices. Mine offer many as well but it cuts down the social media sites from tracking and silos the important sites from cell.
