Yay is so bad. It's hard to set up, and there are so many problems after installing it.

sorry yay is superior to paru.

It take 10 minutes to install paru and rust complite somehow still slower than yay (golang) on my laptop

It took me a while to pull the trigger, but I made the switch a couple months ago. Last week, I even bit the bullet and installed octopi. It reminds me of yast. Pretty nice.

The only thing I hate about Paru is the name, it's the most forgettable name they could've used. Should have used Racman (Pacman + Rust) or something silly instead.

Yay is still maintained.

Notwithstanding the comments below about yay still being maintained, one of the biggest problems I have had with my Arch installation is due to an AUR fonts package being orphaned, It is worth checking at least once a year that all your AUR packages are maintained.

Looking on at this a year later... this really was misleading. If people want to use and recommend paru that's cool, but calling yay unmaintained is a joke. It's tried and tested and still a year on maintained as actively as paru is. I hope this was learned from and newer topics are better vetted as your channel is often a good insight into the Linux world but mistakes like this can make people question the validity of content.

paru is good, but how about stable pamac+yay? Also, how it is no longer maintained when I get 2 updates of yay?

I always install paru, then activate colors and change the invert the sort results, so the most important ones are next to the prompt

It's a typical fake news or lack of any understanding how open source works. YAY is still under development, the fact one of developers left doesn't define destiny of the product.

I tried to install paru, but it failed with the compile error of "use of unstable library feature 'inner_deref"" Not exactly giving me a good first impression here, and I did try running "rustup update stable".

Guess I'll stick with yay for now, until the "better maintained" paru catches up.

Wouldn't yay/paru -Sua break stuff if the updated packages would depend on newer system libraries that didn't get updated because you only updated the AUR? Sounds like a command you should basically never use to not get broken AUR packages to me. It might have its use in some special cases though which I can't think of right now.

There is already a universal package manager for AUR on arch: PAMAC
you can actually use it directly from the command line, so why installing another AUR package manager?
You can use "pamac install xxx" etc
yay & pavu are obsolete.

tried this instead of yay after a manjaro fresh install, paru indeed makes distrohopping easier
