It may not matter much now- but the Pitts were arch Tories and supporters of King George III. Their opposition to the Prince was because he tried to make common cause with Fox and the Whigs/ Liberals in order to install the Regency. This was not because he was a symbol of the old order, nor because he was less competent than a sinking piece of lemon peel.
