Hiya! I'm really happy for everyone who found this video helpful. I'm grateful for all the game recommendations and all the feedback. Kinda sorry I didn't use a better mic, but wasn't really planning for 20,000 views. I was thinking more along the lines of 2,000 when I wrote this video. :D

Since some of you are getting (rightfully!) excited over a political comment I made and sometimes draw wild conclusions, let me clarify:
- Yes, I do not condone Russian aggression in Ukraine.
- But also I do not condone Russophobia. A lot of Russians do not support the war either. All of you guys are absolutely welcome here.
- I do not condone Stalinist apologia. I appreciate the efforts of Russian partisans, but I do not appreciate the medal from Moscow at the end of Partisans 1941.
- I do not condone American interventionism/imperialism.
- I do not condone British colonialism.
- I do not condone Polish nationalism.
- I do not condone racism.
- I do not condone any country's aggression towards any other country, or any war crime that has been perpetrated against any group ever.

Feel free to discuss politics as much as you want. Are any games on this list American or Polish or Chinese propaganda? Are any of them harmful? Go ahead, comment to your heart's content! Just please don't put words in other people's mouth and be civil. We are all people and we all share the same planet, so let's be nice to each other. :)

To add to the problems Robin Hood had, there's one quite egregious I have to mention : There are so many playable characters, that their 'main' abilities are 'diluted' to ridiculous levels and reduced to a measly set of three or something almost just as small. For instance, one character can only shoot a bow or swing a sword, while another can only tie up enemies or swing a sword, while another can only punch enemies or throw a net or swing a sword, while another can only carry bodies or shoot a bow, .... etc ... To summarize : characters are so limited that you need to bring as many as you can on every mission and keep them as close as possible, just so you can perform a very basic set of actions that are supposed to complement each other. For instance, you will probably need one character to lure an enemy into a trap, another character to punch him out, another character to tie him up and yet another character to carry him to a secure location that is out of sight. In so many other Commandos-likes, that could have been done with just one or two characters.

I love this genre. Commandos series got me hooked when I was younger. I waited for Commandos 2 like crazy. I was even part of a fan site for it. When it came out, it did not disappoint. I'd say besides Commandos 2, Desperados 1 and 3 have been incredible along with Shadow Tactics. I know the company recently released Shadow Gambit and I'm highly eager to give it a shot. Then we got Commandos Origin coming out soon. It's a good time to be a fan and better time if you haven't experienced this genre. You have some really nice titles to back and play to get your fix in.

check out Strike in Narrow Path. These are Chinese-made fan custom missions packs with fresh maps that run on the original ancient Commandos game. If you thought any of the genre games' levels were hard, you'll be in shock when you attempt to play these. Some of these are insanely hard and are intentionally engineered to be insanely hard. I quit the last mission I was playing because even my oldest save wouldn't get me out of the situation I was in, which was a trap by the designers. I thought killing an enemy at an important point would be beneficial, but it turned out that that enemy needed to be there in order to progress through the next section, which you only find out after the fact and you've overwritten all earlier progress 😅. It was a great exercşse in sado-masochism.

Chinese here, and firstly pardon me for that my memory can be wrong, since how long it's been. So, The Mission 1937 (I don't remember it even got an official English title 😂) was a big commercial failure (Actually, almost all Chinese-made non-digital video games have been failures, due to how this society treats piracy. After all, stealing foreign intellectual property is one of the main factors that makes this communist regime survive), and it only got some attention cuz Chinese gamers then were hyped for any home-made game. As for the gameplay, I vividly remember it's so buggy that even the first mission was unbeatable (thus nobody knew what the following missions looked like 😂)!

Desperados and Robin Hood were my favorites, partially because of the setting as well. Mimimi is shutting down unfortunately, I would have hoped for some new settings (the pirate theme isn't so much up my alley). Stealth may be my favorite genre.

What about the OMERTA City of Angels? and CROOKZ - The Big Heist?........also the JAGGED ALLIANCE remakes (Back in Action and Crossfire) are not turn based but Real Time strategy (in fact if you love Commandos, Jagged Aliance Back in Action is THE NEXT STEP of what Commandos should be, not only RTS but also lots of RPG)

This is an excellent video! Thank you very much, as I've thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from all the information and commentary about each game. I've recently gotten into RTT, and I have since played:

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun (beaten)
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - Aiko's Choice (beaten)
Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive (beaten)
Helldorado (playing)
Desperados 3 (beaten)
Partisans 1941 (playing)
Commandos 2: HD Remaster (played for two levels, before deciding that it's not worth it)

This is an excellent and overlooked genre, at least for right now! Waiting to play Commandos: Origins, Stargate: Timekeepers ! I think I should also probably play Commandos 3: HD Remaster based on what you said.

All-in-all, excellent video!

Nothing innocent about Ukraine and nothing 'bad' about Russia. Just a full scale proxy propaganda war raised against Russia who has long since been a target of the West. I'm kind of sick and tired of how Russia gets portrayed to be honest.

Honestly, my first Commandos-like game are Commandos 2, i think i was around 4-6 years old, and since English is not my first language, i struggled very hard and only managed to finish Das Boot Silent Killers (literally the 2nd Mission in the game), and that all thanks to Spy's disguise ability.

More than a decade passed, i suddenly remembered this game when searching for new games, and i replayed this game again and finally managed to finish every level when i was 17, i think you'll understand my joy when i finished a game that i basically can't play years ago.

So, after Commandos 2, i actually tried earlier Commandos games and Desperados too and struggled to finish most of the levels, those games are hard af, but they're still good honestly...

A year after those games, i came across Shadow Tactics, probably one of the best game in the genre, and it even has a unique setting (a Japanese Edo Period), the twist also hurts me btw.
And not long after this, i also get the Aiko's choice DLC. It's centered more around Aiko and her past, and i really like the story before the teams incident in the main game. (Btw, nice to play as Mugen again). So since that days, i have high hopes for Mimimi.

A year also passed, and i got Desperados 3.
Personally, i'm having fun with it despite the pace is a bit slower than Shadow Tactics. It's also cool seeing the origins of John Cooper and the Gang too.

Finally, just a year ago, i head Mimimi is also making a new RTS game called Shadow Gambit.
The setting is... Well, pretty interesting (Supernatural Pirates), but seeing the gameplay is cool and it seems to have new cool additions too.

Unfortunately, i also heard the news of Mimimi games shutting down weeks ago. I'm thankful for them to revive the genre and successfully on doing it, and i hope they're doing well from here on out

i am from china, the game of 1937 is rather not well known among young generation than notablely propagated by mass media. only few old users remember this game and only because someone like me love stealth RTT which i deeply search all of the videos. for most chinese internet or PC users are grown-up after 2008, and billions of users access the internet by cellphone since 2013 , z-generation of mainland china appears only recently than other region of the developed world.

I always loved Commandos games and liked Desperados I although the story was pretty meh (so was the voice acting), but when I found Shadow Tactics and finally played it, I loved it. It's the best RTT ever made. And my heart grew out of my chest when I realized they made an expansion... I wish they keep making RTT games!

The last RTT I finished was Partisans 1941 and I totally understand your criticism, I felt the same. The game is pretty bugged, with some game breaking ones, but I really appreciate ambitious games and, boy, this definitely is one. I hope they learn from the mistakes, as the base mechanics are pretty repetitive and boring (pretty much like a mobile or facebook game), but the characters are pretty likeable and the gameplay is good enough to be one of the Commandos successors. Maybe if the style was a bit more grim and the ending wasn't so lackluster (and it didn't have as many bugs), It would've been an awesome game. I enjoyed it enough to replay it entirely on hard difficulty (no saving).

A game I'm anxiously looking forward is a czech one called Last Train Home. You should look it up! ;)

You have forgotten "Soldiers Of Anarchy". Sadly, there is no other game like this, or at least I am not aware. It's roughly like Commandos (though not as stealthy), but you can hijack all kinds of military stuff like weapons, ammo and even vehicles... and it all carries over from mission to mission. I'd love to see more games like that.
