Personally, I really appreciate you for taking the time to analyze a discussion and then pass it on so others might learn something from it. I know I certainly did. I have been a big JP fan for a long time because of his ability to truly listen to what the other person is saying and at the same time, dissecting their words and phrases to spot any sort of attempts to lure him into responding with something he doesn't want to say or something he doesn't agree with. I think Jordan deserved the gotcha, I watched the whole interviews and Cathy was argumentive, rude and a bully all the way through.

I joined a company with a male salesperson who was a truly cunning bully and manipulator. I conversed with him for a while then when he started his sneaky tactics I said stop, I had to say it a couple of times. I then pointed out his tactics in detail - what he said or did, what the effect was and how I was not engaging in that pattern of conversation. I’d like to say he immediately stopped but that, of course, was not the case. He started his tactics again expecting a vehement reaction. He did not get that and eventually ran out of steam. By the way the so-called journalist has a horrible approach to her job. Much smarter to ask open questions that allow people to fully answer. Then she could ask meaningful follow up questions and on this case let him hang himself on his own petard because most of what he says is completely unsubstantiated. I don’t think the interviewees reactive responses did him any favors. The whole thing was a mess

Ten years ago, my office area had an older boss who had anger issues and was very manipulative, but on Friday’s he would walk by us and ask why we were still around at 3pm. I think he was aware of his short-comings and he tried to make up for them by letting us go early on Fridays. I read two book by a clinical psychologist that helped me to understand him and he never bothered me again emotionally after I read the book because I learned how to deal with him. The books are called “In Sheep’s Clothing” and “Character Disturbances”, by George Simon. Those books also help me these days with manipulative types, and instead of becoming angry, I deal with them professionally and grounded.

Mr. Peterson, is a GENIUS! I LOVE this man! Just think of how much BETTER this world would be, if he ran for the Presidency?

Jordan did a great job staying calm, as you pointed out, but also, the Gotcha, is such a normal natural response when we see acquiescence. The interviewer was bent from the outset to prove she was equal to Jordan, and even better than, and could bring him down. She seemed committed to proving her mettle at his expense... his human response of Gotcha, was delightful, because she could not make her points fairly, and was trying to strong arm him... that is an annoying tactic to say the least, and he did, indeed, GET her. Sometimes common ground is the person that lost the match, acknowledging they did and making amends 💖

The mental gymnastics required to deal with people who act like that interviewer is exhausting. I choose not to engage. Their perception of their own perfection and everyone else’s imperfections is illness and I don’t want to be their psychologist.

I don't see this conversation as you do. She is finally asking the right questions to this jerk and he is is just windig himself out. That's not a good example. This is a lesson in "how to be a bad person and never admit any failure". This man is a full blown narcissist. Not admitting anything and telling always the opposite is his one and only skill.
