Alot of these who make their own colonies are called "ulitharid". A different better version of the Illithid. (They are born different) they have big egos and generally just get tired of the Elder brains rule and set off to make their own colony. With Mind Flayers consuming so many brains wouldn’t there be a HUGE waste of excessive bodies lying around??? That seems primitive for such and intelligent being. What effects would the host's DNA have on the mindflayer's genetics and how many ways could that change the lineage of each one? I think the possibilities are endless, including a new lineage evolving a new symbiosis with the host rather than outright destruction of the host's personality. Hunted by other mindflayers and the mortal races alike and trying to figure out their own identity and place in a world where they are nearly universally despised, while they are also undergoing internal struggles to find a balance between the illlithid and the host personalities. Sounds fascinating to me. Thoughts? Anyone.
