Does your voice rise or fall at the end of your statements? Let's talk about choosing falling or rising intonation at the end of your sentences to show you're done talking or to ask a question. Falling intonation at the end of statements signals that you've finished your though, or asked an information question and need an answer from the other person. This falling tone invites the other person to respond to you.
In these examples, you'll hear how choosing falling or rising intonation changes the meaning of the sentence. Rising intonation can turn a statement into a question, or show uncertainty, doubt, disbelief, or surprise. Falling intonation shows that you've finished speaking so that the other person knows it's okay for them to start talking.
