Mafia 2: Definitive Edition Review - A Lazy Remaster

Mafia 2 is my favourite gangster game not because of the gameplay but because of the story

Game has so many framerate issues, wont let me get cover alot of the time and straight up freezes randomly so i have to turn the game off and restart. Did not have any of these issues in Mafia 1 remaster.

Never thought I’d be this immersed in a story line. The plot and story line, emotional bonds you ultimately have with most of the characters. Mission weren’t repetitive and for its time, the open world was phenomenal. Great remaster too considering what Rockstar shoved down our asses.

It’s not lazy. It’s better than 90% of remasters like look at gta remaster it looks and plays like dog poop

It’s funny how everybody in the comments basically disagreed with this review. And I agree, The game was so much fun, we all enjoyed it. People are to spoiled with games nowadays. If people had a blast with OG Nintendo games & OG PS1 games, how can you complain on something like this?

Mafia 1 and 3 were great!

I didn't play the originals. I'm going through all of the definitive editions. So far, mafia 1 was amazing. Looked way better than 2. Then in 2, I felt like I was driving more than playing the game

I just purchased for $9.00, And I'm playing it seems it played better on my PS4. It does on my PS5 today but it's a great story.

I've been loving how immersive Mafia 1 is. They put so much effort into it's remake. Such a damn shame that Mafia 2 didn't get similar treatment because the story is absolutely amazing

Mafia 2 was the first Mafia game I played, and I honestly thought it was a masterpiece. And after buying the "definitive edition" collection on sale and playing the amazing first game in all its beautiful modern graphical glory I was looking forward to playing M2 and seeing it had the same treatment and love, damn am I disappointed...

So bad! Every mission is drive there collect drive back walk to your apartment walk to next job…

Just got de Mafia 2 def Ed for 4 bucks on Steam. Played it back on the Xbox 360 era. Was a great game back then and my first Mafia game. Completed Mafia 1 Def Ed yesterday. It was a blast

It’s 2023 and I just bought this on sale on the Microsoft Store for $9.99 on my Series X. I would have paid the full $30 for it, I’ve got the 1st and 3rd one as well but the 3rd is absolutely awful. Also to be fair cars of this age didn’t have double wishbone suspension or even disc brakes. They were trash, full stop.

I really enjoyed playing this game when it came out. Idk why but I had a lot of fun playing it.

Let me start out by saying I only paid $10 for this game and I just finished and I agree pretty much what you said except is it worth your time. I would say no, there are far better games out there. Better off watching a "Mafia" movie. I agree the voice acting was terrific. But the story had me asking, why would Vito do that more than once. It's definitely a rinse and repeat type of game. Worse part is definitely the driving, so I saved up some money souped up one of my cars, parked it outside a story mission and it was gone along with all my money I spent on it. It was a 10 hour game, that I wanted to get over with so I can see how it ended. When the end credits started, it was a "really"?! Moment. 5/10

I mean, it was free for everyone that had the OG Mafia II, so as long consider it a free 4k texture pack released by the devs it’s good. If you bought it on the other hand, we’ll there is plenty to complain.

I just ended Mafia 1 followed by 2, and I can't conceive how the grphs of the first tittle is way better than the second, but 2nd have a more rich history

Mafia 1 remake is better but dont get it twisted it's really a good treat they polished mafia 2 tho. Just great to play again man I swear mafia 2 was my top 3 favorite games ever. I cant complain honestly

No actually it was great to have this game relive our lives. For a 2010 I wondered when the remaster was being made for all three if the game would be let dead or something because I have a special place for Mafia 2 and now the Trilogy

Mafia 1 remake was great, was really disappointed when I got to mafia 2. I know it’s not a remake and just a remaster of an older game so could have forgiven that but the bugs and low frame rate made it almost unplayable

After the gta trilogy remaster and all original copies being removed from shelves I’m actually gonna dive back into this one

Been playing it on ps5 and it runs like s$$$….anything on psnow runs like crap 💩 I had a Xbox series x and man it ram great all the games streaming or digitally downloaded.think the thing we all are not talking about ps5 has to low of ram.the fps drops bad and way different if your playing a ps5 disc night and day.load times are crazy fast.I wish I left my wife and did not sell my xbox series x she gets naked and plays ps5.I have way to much on the ps5 to sell it.she maid me sell the xbox and I would hope one day xbox can make a great controller like Sony has.I’ll go to pc tho after all this.back to what I was saying the ps5 can’t stream well no Wi-Fi isn’t bad or a issue it is just case to case Sony says.some streaming is bad with other streaming is good 👍 good when it is on a land line nope that is not true either.

It's a fun game with a great story, but it's painfully short, and the ending is such a letdown that I was almost disappointed I'd wasted my time playing it. I played the remaster of the first Mafia just before playing through this, and that was so much better. I'm planning to finally get around to Mafia 3 next, so I hope it's not just more of the same.

So you cant save the game, have to play thrue every mission to get autosave...
